Five Uses for Resealable Plastic Bags
There is no doubt that the resealable plastic bag has become an essential item in most households. First patented in the early 1950's, it wasn't until the '80s that these items became more widely used. Originally, they were made with a double-sided type tape, that could be reused over again, however nowadays there are many different styles of resealable bags to choose from.
Storage: One of the main purposes for the resealable plastic bag is storage. They are great to store smaller items in, as they take up a lot less room than bulkier boxes or cartons do, for example. They are also easier to place. You do not need near as much room to slip in a plastic bag stored with items as you do a bulkier plastic or cardboard container. Yet, they do the job of keeping items together in one place, just as well.
Categorizing: They are also often used to keep similar items together. For example, if you collect buttons for sewing projects, they are great for storing either similar sized or similar colored buttons in. All sorts of things can be categorized and stored in resealable plastic bags. No more need to search around for plastic bands or wire twisters, as you can pop them inside a resealable bag and have them on hand for quick use.
Food Storage: Perhaps the most common use of all, these type of bags are often used to store food in a refrigerator, or to freeze food for later use. While they are not 'stackable' they do fit nicely into smaller spaces, and are great to use if you find that you are running out of space in your refrigerator or freezer. By the same token, you can also store loose grains or herbs and spices in resealable bags as well.
Lunches: Children have been taking their sandwiches to school in resealable plastic bags for years. Originally, many mothers packed their children's school lunches in regular small sandwich bags, however the common use of resealable bags has meant that food taken to school stays fresher for longer, and never slips out of the bag either!
Repackaging: If you are travelling or going on vacation, you will most likely transfer some of your toiletry items into smaller bottles and jars, as it is not usually necessary to take a lot of shampoo with you, for example, and space is also an issue when travelling. Unfortunately, these items can sometimes leak or become unscrewed. In order to prevent leaks from damaging clothing and other items, the simplest solution is to pack them inside of a resealable bag--giving that added bit of protection.
