Fix and Prevent Slow Computer Performance

By | 1 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

All PC users will know that with time their systems do not function as well as when they were first taken out of the box. If you want to understand how to avoid slow computer performance then it is worthwhile taking a moment to read the following pointers and advice. If understood they should help you boost the speed of your PC without much effort. Any frustration that is currently felt would quickly evaporate.

The first step you should take is to make certain that there are no applications or programs running which are not needed. This can be done by going to the "run" application and typing in msconfig. You will be shown a list of what programs are currently using up resources as well as which start the moment you turn your PC on.

Always take care to ensure that you do not terminate an essential program by accident as this could have dire consequences. Only switch off applications of which you are one hundred per cent certain are not needed. Altering start up programs can dramatically improve the time it takes for your PC to boot up. No longer will you have time to go and make a cup of tea before the computer is ready to use.

Can you remember the last time you carried out a defragmentation of your hard drive? This should be performed on a weekly basis to help guarantee avoid slow computer performance. When we copy or create a new file then it will be allocated a certain amount of space. A new file will be written to the next space that is available, but this is often not sufficient in size so the file is split into pieces and spread out. As more files get added it is all too easy for the hard drive to become totally fragmented which slows down response time immensely.

By carrying out a defragmentation on a regular basis the files on your hard drive will be kept together and the performance of the PC will be noticeably faster. Most home PCs have defragmentation software installed before being sold, you just need to fix the settings for when the task is performed.

It can also be useful to defragment the registry every so often as this also impacts the speed of the PC. When a program is installed, information is added to the registry and can be defragmented much like with the hard drive. However, disk defragmenter and a registry defragmenter are not the same piece of software. You will probably have to download a registry defragmenter to install and use.

Over time, every computer will get filled with information that is no longer needed let alone accessed. To remove junk files you should carry out a disk clean up. This would also remove such problems as duplicate data and short cuts that are irrelevant. It should make a big difference to the speed of your PC and help avoid having your computer running slow.

By making an effort to clean up junk from your computer's system and reorganizing the information stored, you can often combat slow computer performance. Use these method to improve a currently slow-running computer and to avoid a slow down in the future. In fact, mark time on your calendar each month to keep your computer in top working condition.

You just got me inspired to do a defragment on my computer. I used to do them and got out of the habit. I am sure this is my problem. Thanks for a great article!
