Flat Wallets

By | 0 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

Technically wallets, but not necessarily flat wallets have been around since the first century and referred to a bag or sack for carrying one's personal articles. The Greek god Hermes used to carry around a kibisis, a carrying sack of some sort and is usually translated to the English word wallet. In this wallet, since he was the messenger of the gods, he carried all the blessings and curses of said deities nice and securely. If wallets, leather flat wallets or any other variety were good enough for the gods, they should be good enough for us mortals.

It is seldom that one finds an item that has such staying power and it testifies to the practicality, usefulness and probable necessity of this item. Ironically enough, the ancient Greeks definitely knew something about wisdom and the relevance of the Hermes myth it seems is still relevant today.

Our wallets are still used to carry the blessings and curses of the gods. Money, especially in the form of a credit card can be a blessing or a curse depending on if it is used with temperance and wisdom. If we use it with gluttony and to feed our vanity we might find the curses of the gods will flow our way rather than their blessings.

Still, the practical uses of a nice well designed wallet cannot be denied and it is up to us whether blessings or curses flow from them. You can find a really nice flat wallet made from leather for $50 or less and it will have all the necessary features. These features are usually plenty of separate pockets for ID and credit/debit cards as well as loose change and paper money.

Leather of course is a great insulating and protecting material which is exactly what you will need if you have delicate items that have a magnetic strip. This is why the material has been so popular for 2000 years in fulfilling the purpose of carrying valuable personal items.

If you are tempted to test the gods there are also plenty of designer flat leather wallets to choose from that will be quite a bit pricier and can set you back up to $500. Presumably they also offer a great deal more than just a name and if you can afford one, you probably need the extra features, quality and protection.
