When most people think about a nutritional plan geared towards weight loss they probably imagine egg whites, chicken breast, and tuna; however, they fail to remember that about 30 percent of a person's weight loss success comes from what they drink! Now its pretty obvious that water does not have a flavourful taste, and although some people may enjoy the taste of water, many people would rather drink something other than water. I, for one, enjoy the thirst-quenching effect that water has on my body, but would rather drink anything else that has a flavour associated with it. With all of the above in mind, it is obvious that water may not be the best-tasting beverage available; however, the fact still remains that water is the best choice for a nutritional plan geared towards weight loss! What if I told you that there were ways to spice up your water and add flavour to it, while still maintaining its weight loss value! I have used these methods throughout my weight loss journey, and they have proved to be so useful as to allow me to look forward to having a nice cold glass of water. These can be used by people who already enjoy the taste of water to allow them to enjoy it even more!

Lemon Water:

This is probably the most common way to spice up water as it is the absolute easiest to do. This provides the person with a quick, easy, and tasty way to add flavour to their water while still maintaining its nutritional role.

-Glass of Water

1. Cut a lemon into approximately 8 pieces

2. Add lemon piece(s) into water; add 1 piece for every 500 ml of water

3. Stir and enjoy!

Note: Lemons may be replaced with limes or oranges if the person prefers.

Blueberry Ice Cubes:

This option adds a little bit more flavour to the water than the previous sliced lemon option; however, it takes a little bit more time and effort to prepare.

-Ice Cube Tray

-Glass of Water

1. Dice up blueberries into small pieces; each blueberry should be cut into 4-8 pieces.

2. Use the diced blueberries to fill up an ice cube tray; about 1/3 of each ice cube should be blueberries

3. Fill the remainder of each ice cube slot with water

4. Place the ice cube tray in the freezer

5. Wait about an hour for the water and blueberries to freeze

6. Place the blueberry ice cubes in water and enjoy!

Crystal Light:

This option adds a lot of flavour to the water and requires very little preparation; however, the trade-off is that it facilitates the consumption of many artificial ingredients. For that one reason, I would recommend this alternative the least; however, if it is the only alternative available, it may be used.

-Glass of Water

1. Open the package of Crystal Light

2. Empty contents into the glass of water

3. Stir and enjoy!

Note: Crystal Light may be replaced with other varieties of flavour packets if the person prefers.

These are all examples of ways to add flavour, in the comfort of your own home, to the water that you can drink. They are all simple for the most part, and can quickly take away the "boring" taste that water encompasses. They have all proven to be useful for myself throughout my weight loss journey as I hope they will be for yours as well.
