Follow These Tips to Traveling with Your Clubs

By | Feb 1, 2010 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

After you consider the hassle of hauling your clubs to the airport, spending more to check them as baggage, and the essential risk, traveling with your clubs can be quite an endeavor. It may well be worth it as they are your clubs, and you're never truly playing your best without them. Travelling also offers new golf opportunities and a chance to play the same greens as the pros. This can be tempting if you are just sick and tired of the neighborhood country club green. Keep these tips to travelling with your clubs in mind for the best experience possible.

The Carry On
Anyone who's ever watched Caddyshack knows that a golf club can be a lethal weapon. It only makes sense that airlines require you to check your clubs. You can't even bring your own water on a plane anymore. While you will have to check your clubs, you can save money if you try to fit your other luggage, like great ladies golf shirts, into a carry-on bag.

Checking additional bags costs you serious money. Most airlines charge more for a second bag than they do for the first, so you can really save serious bucks if you keep carry the rest of your luggage on the plane. Keep in mind that you are only allowed one carry-on bag and a purse, so make as much economic use of space as possible. Try loading up extra room in your golf bag with extra clothes, cosmetics or other essentials.

Make Sure to Do the Math
Is it really worth it to bring your golf clubs this trip? How much golf do you really hope to be able to play? Be honest. If your clubs are just going to end up taking space in the hotel closet, they can do that just as easily at home. On the other hand, you may plan to play a lot of golf on your vacation, and you'll really need your clubs. Weigh up the benefits and costs to decide if golf clubs really should be part of your luggage for this trip.

Stay Calm
Anyone who has ever travelled knows that problems happen. If your clubs don't greet you at baggage claim, keep calm. Contact an official about the problem immediately. In most instances, you can have the clubs delivered right to your hotel room timely and conveniently.
