Foods For Weight Loss

By Edited Nov 20, 2013 0 0

Nutrition experts say there are foods that can be considered weight loss foods because they fill you up without adding lots of excess calories. Fruits and vegetables are the foods that do just that. The key to this weight loss power that they provide is fiber. Yep, fiber. It is extremely rare to find a person that gets enough fiber in their diet on a day to day basis. I know I don't.

Protein is another nutrient that is becoming very popular. It has been said that protein may help to curb your appetite. Protein also offers good energy and can slightly boost your metabolism. Protein is just like any food. It has calories. So if you eat too much it ends up on your body. I'm not talking as muscle either.

Here are a few more foods or nutrients that can aid in weight loss:

Yogurt can not only play a vital role in your weight loss, but it can also add much needed probiotics. Probiotics can help boost the immune system and keep other bad bacteria away. It's not just yogurt but lots of dairy products should be apart of your diet. The addition of yogurt and dairy may accelerate your weight loss. Keep calories in mind however, choose a lighter calorie yogurt and use it for snacks to keep the hunger pangs at bay.

Green Tea

Researchers suspect that the compounds found in green tea may help weight loss by causing the body to burn calories at a faster rate. This in turn could help lower body fat levels. Green tea is also loaded with antioxidants which are great in keeping your body healthy overall. Antioxidants destroy the waste products that are produced the body called free radicals. A good supply of antioxidants will keep your body running at optimal levels.

Your body is mostly water. You should be drinking a lot it through the day. It's great because it' calorie free and you can drink it as much as you want. I'm not talking just plain water either. You can include drinking sugar free tea, mineral water, or water with lemon. Water flushes toxins from the body. Its also great to drink a glass or two before your meals. That way you won't eat as much. Also, when you think your hungry, it could be a signal from your body that you need to have some water. It's not always food that is the problem. So when you're feeling hungry, try drinking a tall glass of water before having some food

I'm talking the green, low-calorie salad. No, you can't add all that salad dressing or croutons to the salad. That would defeat the purpose of the salad. The salad in itself is pretty low in calories and does a pretty good job of helping fill you up so you don't eat as much during your big meals.

Whole Grain Products

Whole grain products can help boost your fiber intake and help with those hunger pangs that sometimes crush your weight loss goals. There are many sources of whole grain this day and age. You can have some oatmeal or whole grain breads or you could have some whole grain cereal for breakfast. Generally if you're dieting it's better to have your whole grain foods earlier in the day because of the high carbohydrate content they have. You don't want to eat those types of foods too late in the day if you are on a weight loss program.
