If you are diabetic then you need to know what to eat and the foods that lower blood sugar.


A great way to manage your blood sugar naturally is just to eat the right type of foods.

There are several great tasting foods that lower your blood sugar and are great for your health as well.

Fresh fruits like cherries, apples, bananas, grapes, raisins, pears, peaches, lemons, mangos and oranges will all help to lower your blood sugar when added into your diet.

Foods That Lower Blood Sugar

Reading the label will tell you the nutrients, the serving's size. Eating the right amount of food with the right nutrients can help to naturally maintain blood sugar as well as increase your healthy lifestyle.

The following is a partial list of foods that lower blood sugar levels:Checkups: Visit your doctor on a regular basis to check your blood pressure and adjust any medications.

  1. Cinnamon: Cinnamon is high in fiber and contains magnesium which can help to control blood sugar.

  2. Sweet Potatoes: Sweet Potatoes include fiber that reduces carotenoids and blood sugar that helps to regulate insulin.

  3. Avocados: Avocado has been shown to help lower blood sugar.

  4. Onions: Onion helps to lower insulin as well as boost HDL cholesterol levels.

  5. Garlic: Using garlic in your cooking helps to reduce blood sugar as well as lower LDL cholesterol.

  6. Fresh Vegetables: Vegetables can control blood sugar. Great vegetables to pick from include leafy green vegetables, peas, cabbage and tomatoes.

  7. Lemons: Lemons contain vitamin C and can lower both blood sugar and lower cholesterol.

  8. Chicken: Skinless turkey, chicken, fish and low fat diary products all contain protein and lower blood sugar.

  9. Carbohydrates: By eating foods with low glycemic carbohydrates such as oatmeal, beans, whole grains, barley and granola are all foods that lower blood sugar.

  10. Nuts: Eating nuts like walnuts, pecans, almonds, peanuts, macadamia and Brazil nuts can help maintain blood sugar and make great snacks. Not recommended for people with allergies to nuts.

  11. Herbs and spices: Lots of different seasonings have been shown to help lower blood sugar.

  12. Water: By drinking lots of water you can flush toxins from your body.

  13. Exercise: Although it's not a food it's still a good way lower your blood sugar. A great way to get exercise is by walking. Exercise helps you to remain healthy and reduce weight, also helping with the way your body functions.

  14. Lower your intake of caffeine and alcohol. Again this is something you should not consume.

  15. Stop smoking.

  16. Salt: Remove salt from your table and your diet. Try other seasonings and pepper blends to lower the need for salt.

  17. Lower stress: Reduce as much stress as possible.

  18. Diet: Create a healthy diet and eat small portions at each meal to allow your body to digest easily.

There are various list of foods that lower cholesterol and blood suger such as Oat cereal, Cereals containing flaxseed or psyllium, Whole grain cereals, All types of fruits, especially currants, grapes, strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, citrus fruits, apples, Pecan nuts, walnuts, olives, soy nuts, Dried or canned beans, peas and lentils, Corn, fresh, frozen or canned, Soybean products, Whole wheat bread, All vegetables, especially onion, watercress, leeks, spinach, carrots, artichokes, avocado, broccoli, kale Brussels sprouts and cauliflower, A variety of flavourings, herbs and spices, especially fresh garlic, - Lean meats and chicken, Salmon, swordfish, tuna and trout, Canola and olive oils and margarines made from these oils.
