Foods and Supplements to Prevent and Improve Poor Eyesight

Your eyes respond to lifestyle and dietary changes, which may go along way to promote healthy eyesight or bring about poor eyesight. Foods and supplements have a role to play in preventing and improving poor eyesight. As one continues to age, the eyes become less active, but foods and supplements can be used to prevent or improve them.

As you age, old sightedness, a type of farsighted that results from aging occurs. This type of farsightedness comes normally and gradually with age. With age, the crystalline lens of the eyes becomes less transparent, and tends to lose its elasticity. The lens at this time fails to thicken properly and casts images behind instead of on the retina. Some persons at the age of forty and above begin to hold the newspaper farther and farther away, to be able to read it.

Damage to the eyes is often caused by environmental pollution, toxins, and poor diets deficient in essential nutrients. Damage is also caused by bye products of normal functioning of the body. Eye diseases such as cataracts, glaucoma, and age-related eye degeneration, may occur as from age 40 and above.

Foods and supplements can help prevent and improve poor eyesight, because the eyes respond well to lifestyle changes and diets. The following foods and supplements can help prevent and improve poor eyesight:

1. Eat Garlic and onions

These foods contain sulphur, which form glutathione. Glutathione protects the lens, and aids in the prevention of cataracts, experts say.

2. Add Bilberry to your Diet

This food helps strengthen capillaries in the eyes, improves blood circulation to the retina, and helps the production of a purple pigment that is used by the eye rods for night vision, experts say.

3. Eat Red Peppers and Tomatoes

These foods are also known to reduce the risk of cataracts. These foods contain good amounts of vitamin C.

4. Eat Yellow Vegetables, Carrot and deep Oranges

They contain beta-carotene, which help to reduce the risk of eye degeneration trouble due to age.

5. Eat Broccoli, Spinach, and Green vegetables

Experts say that they help to shield the eyes from ultra violet rays.

6. Daily Ingest Multivitamins and Antioxidants Supplements

You must daily take antioxidants and multivitamins supplements. These provide all the essential nutrients that are required by the eye for normal and optimal functioning, which may be missing in your diets. They will aid the eye to receive normal blood circulation, nerve function, and general eye health.
