Nice Spot for a Vacation!

A Formentera vacation is quite unlike one on its neighboring Balearic Islands of Mallorca, Menorca or Ibiza. Whilst the latter three all have airports, Formentera is accessible only by sea, and this has helped it avoid the negative impact of excessive tourism. Here you will enjoy a holiday that gives you an authentic Illes Pitiuses (Pine Islands) experience.

It is the Balearic Islands of Ibiza and Formentera, that make up the Pine Islands, and whilst Ibiza has ceded some of its natural heritage to hedonistic clubbing, Formentera remains closer to its roots. However, used by Cilician pirates as a base in ancient times, it is Sicilian pirates that take the island hostage during the summer months these days!

As a result of the island's small size you will be in striking distance of one of its main villages (Sant Francesc Xavier, Sant Ferran de ses Roques, El Pilar de la Mola, La Savina. wherever you end up staying. As well as being near a village, you are also guaranteed to be close part of the island's glorious coastline which makes water sports, from diving to windsurfing, a great option for any Formentera vacation.

Es Pujols is the only tourist resort on the island, and home to the one nightclub. This good for those that want to balance the outdoor activities of the island, with the familiarity of a resort. But there are some sad tourists who spend all their time on Es Pujols and miss the rich variety that a holiday on the island has to offer.

Other places that you should take in are: La Savina, Ses Salines, Sant Francesc Xavier, Sant Ferran de ses Roques, El Pilar de la Mola, Cala Saona, Cap de Barbaria, Tramuntana, Migjorn, and Far de Formentera.

Accommodation on the island is generally rather basic, and ranges from hostels to resort hotels. One of the best options is to hire a villa for yourself. If it is one with BBQ facilities so much the better. With limited availability it is important to book early if you want to get yourself a spot on the island during the summer months.

From the moment you dock at La Savina your Formentera vacation offers you a rich experience, with everything from Caribbean quality beaches, to mud baths, to hiking, cycling and diving. It's an incredible place, and the best advice that can be given is to stay there for as long as possible! Indeed quite a few people just never leave.
