Fostering Kittens or Cats

By 0 0

The humane society offers a great program for those who are animal lovers.  So many kittens and adult cats come into the humane society and there simply is not enough room for all of them.  In many areas of the country there is an overpopulation of cats and they are encouraging you to adopt from a shelter instead of buying from a dealer.  This is a great way to save the life of an animal and offer it a second chance.

The program is awesome because the humane society provides you with all of the supplies you need to care for the cat.  The kitty litter and food is provided to you completely in return of you taking awesome care of the cat.

There are many advantages of fostering a cat including being able to spend time with animals.  It is proven that people who are around animals are more often times happier with their life.  It also gives the pet a chance of survival.  Unfortunately, sometimes if the cats are not adoptable they are forced to put them down.  Another advantage to the foster program is the fact that you are provided with the supplies you need.  This is great for those who love cats but simply are not financially ready to adopt an animal.

With everything comes some disadvantages.  At any given point the cat you have in your home may become adopted.  This may become sad for everyone, especially children living in your home.  People become very attached to their pets and I can imagine that after having them in your home for so long it would be hard to have them leave.

The only thing the foster program through the humane society requires is for you to give the cats your love and to take them in to get their shots when they are needed.  Of course you are not charged for the vaccinations.  The shelter will also make sure that you do not have any history of taking animals to the shelter.  This is something that they look for before you are able to become a foster parent.  If you have ever dropped off one of your pets at the shelter, they will not match you with another pet for fostering nor for adoption.  You will also have to go through a background check to make sure that you pass.  If you have any other pets you will have to make sure that they get along with other animals as well.  Depending on where you live they will they will usually allow you to foster one adult cat at a time or a litter of kittens.

Deciding to be a foster parent for an animal is a awesome opportunity.  It is also a great way for you to bring pets into your home and see how their personality is before they are adopted.  Sometimes personalities of pets and their owners don't mix well so this is a great way to get to know them.  The foster program is an awesome program for families looking to share their love for animals by providing them with a great temporary home until they are adopted into their forever home.
