Fountain Supplies

By Edited Sep 21, 2015 0 0

When deciding on the type of fountain that you want for indoor or outdoor use, there are a wide range of options available to you. The fountains come in various shapes, sizes, designs and materials.

There are fountains that look like rock waterfalls in which rocks are used in a cascading shape to direct the flow of the water from the stones into a pond below. There are also fountains that have bowls or other water storing shapes to make a fountain dripping effect like bamboo fountains or barrel fountains.

These come in various shapes and sizes and are ideal for home usage. There are many options available in which you don’t even have to plug in anything and it works on its own. One needs to be clear about the fountain desired, including the multitude of options available.

Accessories & Construction Materials

Finding materials to be used in fountains can be a bit tricky. The common materials are stone, cement, wood, fiberglass, and plastic. Some parts are made from stainless steel and copper, like pipes and motors. You need to know about some of the different characteristics of these materials so that you can make wise decisions.

Fiberglass has one major advantage-- it’s lightweight. It comes in various shapes and sizes and is commonly used to look like real stones. Because of its ability to look like real stones, it is a great substitute for granite which is quite heavy.

This kind of material is being used in a number of water features and thus, it is mass produced and easily available. Fiberglass does have one disadvantage though: it fades easily and loses its color. This is especially true when it is used for outdoor purposes and in direct sunlight.

Fiberglass can make fountains look good but they do not usually provide a natural look like stone-cast materials do.

Stone creates a rustic, natural look and is also very durable. It lasts for a long time and remains natural looking without any maintenance or color loss. However, stone cast materials are very heavy. In addition, they are more expensive than fiberglass and shipping costs can be exorbitant.

Copper is a very popular material for fountains and their accessories, such as pipes and taps. Copper glistening in the sun gives fountains a bright and upscale feel. This material can be used in both indoor and outdoor water features.

Glass is also used in wall and floor fountains to have a transparent look. Glass materials give decorative water pieces an artistic appeal as well. Seeing the water flow through the glass offers a visual delight for the viewer.

As you can see, there are many options when looking for fountain materials. We have a lot of choice regarding materials and can choose the ones that suit our liking.

Where can these materials be purchased? There are both online and offline options available to us. Offline you can get the fountains of your choice from any of the leading retail stores and malls that specialize in fountain materials.

Home décor and garden improvement centers also carry related supplies. To buy specific materials, you can go to specialty hardware shops and malls to find glass, stones and other substances. Or you can have a custom made fountain created just for you.
