Four Different Uses for String Curtains
Up until recent times, the use of string curtains was mainly limited to places like motels and casinos, where they would create an atmosphere of relaxation and mystique for their clients. Recently, however, this style of curt
ain has become more and more popular in the average home, and can be used in many different ways to add elegance to your home decor.
A string curtain is basically made up of hundreds of individual strings, similar to a beaded curtain, but without the beads. The curtains are manufactured using many different types of materials, including, at the cheaper end of the spectrum, cotton and polyester, right up to the more expensive silks and wool. You can even get string curtains that are made out of leather.
There are four main places that you can utilise this style of curtain...
In A Doorway - A string curtain hung on the top beam of a door frame creates the illusion of division, while still maintaining a nice level of air flowing throughout the house. This option is great for those situations where you just need a little bit of privacy in your room, without completely locking out the outside world.
On A Window - A string curtain hanging on a window creates an interesting effect of dappled light shining through. Many people use sheer curtains for those times when they just need a slight covering, and string curtains are a great alternative. You need to be careful in these situations that the wind blowing through the window doesn't get the strings in your curtain tangled. If you get yourself one of those double curtain rods, you can hang the string curtain behind, and still have a full length curtain in front of it.
Around A Bed - Having a string curtain installed around the outside of your bed will turn your bedroom into an intimate and luxurious place. The feel of the strings running through your fingers as you lay in bed cannot be beat, and will make you feel like an Egyptian queen resting for the night.
On A Wall - Although this has zero functional value, many people really like the look of string curtains hanging on their wall. If you choose colors that match the decor for your room, it can make a great feature in the living room.
