Four Tips for Finding the Perfect Basketball Shoe

By Edited Nov 13, 2013 0 2

Finding the perfect basketball shoe can be a lot harder than you think. You need to make sure that the shoe provides the best support for you, that the shoe is durable, that you have good traction with the shoe and that you are comfortable when wearing the basketball shoe. Companies that make great basketball shoes include Converse and Puma. To save money on basketball shoes from those merchants, be sure to use a coupon code when you can.

Support

When purchasing a basketball shoe, finding the one that provides the best support for you is the most important aspect. If you are a speedy PG or SG, you will want a low top basketball shoe that is light weight and doesn't restrict your ankles. If you are an all-around player, like Kobe Bryant or LeBron James, you should look at a midsole basketball shoe. If you are a PF or C that uses power for your basketball game, you need a high top basketball shoe that provides maximum support for your ankles. If you are not sure if you need a low top, midsole or hightop basketball shoe, watch some video of an NBA player that you want to model yourself after to see what type of basketball shoe they wear.

Durability

In terms of basketball shoes, you really do get what you pay for. If you buy a cheap basketball shoe, the shoe probably won't be the most durable and you'll probably have to replace it during the season. You don't want your shoe falling apart while you are on the court, so always buy basketball shoes from a reputable brand. If possible, hit the internet and look for reviews on the basketball shoe that you are interested in so that you can get an idea about how they hold up.

Traction

It is a must that you purchase a basketball shoe that allows you to start and stop on a dime. Basketball courts can be slippery, so you need a shoe that provides a great deal of traction. Even if you plan on purchasing your basketball shoe online, make an effort to try the shoe on in a retail store so that you can see how much traction the shoe has. It is very important that your shoe have good grip on the forefoot and heel.

Comfort

Basketball shoes should fit like a glove. If you purchase a basketball shoe that is too big, you risk the shoe falling off of your foot while you are hustling up and down the basketball court. Keep in mind that most basketball games last 60 minutes and if you're a starter, you'll be playing for at least 35 of those minutes. Your feet will take a beating from running all over the hardwood, so you need to be comfortable in the basketball shoes that you are wearing. As a general rule, you want a basketball shoe that provides support for your heel, arch and toes.
