Why Give Free Christmas Presents for Needy Kids?

It really is possible to find free Christmas presents for needy kids and this is one of the most thoughtful gestures you can do during the holiday season. What more could a child ask for than a gift from a stranger, and when you don't have to pay any money for them it gives you an opportunity to put smiles on so many more little faces. Free Christmas presents for needy kids are becoming more sought-after every year thanks to this oh-so-wonderful recession we have all been experiencing.

According to the National Center for Children in Poverty, 40% of all white children and 73% of all African-American children in the United States live in households with zero or negative net worth. If that wasn't a good enough reason to give out free Christmas presents for needy kids, there are many other disturbing statistics worth sharing, including:

  • According to the Children's Defense Fund, 2171 babies are born into poverty in the U.S. every day.
  • The average rate of poverty for children in the U.S is 2 to 3 times higher than it is in most of the world's industrialized countries, according to Catholic Campaign for Human Development.
  • The National Survey of Homeless Assistance Providers & Clients state that the average age of a homeless person is 9 years old.

These, unfortunately, are all recent stats from 2008 to present. These are just a few of the major problems America is facing, but they are definitely some of the most important. While finding free Christmas presents for needy kids isn't going to really solve these issues, they are at least a great way to show that you care for these poor children and give them something to be happy about during the holiday season.

Where to Find Free Christmas Presents for Needy Kids

Salvation Army - The Salvation Army is a church-based, non-profit organization that has a long history of helping underprivileged children, adults and families alike. This is easily one of the best places to get a hold of some free Christmas presents for needy kids. Good Samaritans are always donating clothes, toys and other goods to the Salvation Army and it's all up for grabs if you can prove that you are going to distribute them to impoverished children.

Churches - Some churches will donate things to the Salvation Army, others will send the free Christmas presents for needy kids directly to them, but if you can get in there and tell them what you plan on doing, they may be able to help you out. Make sure you can somehow show evidence that your intent to give free Christmas presents for needy kids is honest and true because unless you frequent the church or know someone there, they may not trust you.

Goodwill - Visiting a local Goodwill is an option worth trying if you are looking for free Christmas presents for needy kids but you will find mixed results. My suggestion is to talk to a manager and explain to him or her what you are planning on doing and kindly ask them if they would like to donate free Christmas presents for needy kids. Even if they have their hands tied and aren't able to give them to you at no cost, you might still be able to negotiate a discount on the gifts.

Friends & Family - When all else fails, it's always a good idea to get a bunch of like-minded people together and see what they have to offer in terms of gifts, even if they are small. If you can find a lot of people that are willing to give a couple of free Christmas presents for needy kids, all of them put together can add up pretty quick. Ask your family, friends, co-workers and anyone else that you know if they want to throw in any gifts. You might be surprised at how many people are willing to help, even in these harsh economic times.

So you see, it's not as hard as you may have thought to find free Christmas presents for needy kids after all. Happy holidays to you; and I know that a topic like this can be depressing, especially with those nasty statistics, but stay positive! Giving free Christmas presents to needy kids is a lot more enjoyable than reading about it!

Travis ... this is a wonderful article!!! I never thought of going to these organizations, myself, to get gifts for needy kids. I work with special education students at a local high school, and some of them have real needs. I'll check this out. Perhaps our special ed staff can go together to do something for some of our students. Thanks!
