Free Home Phone Service

By | Oct 8, 2009 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

Getting free home phone service helps you take a chunk out of your household budget. You may find that you don't even use your home phone much because you are always on the go. You can cut down on your monthly bill or get rid of it altogether with a little creativity and sacrifice.

Get a local cell phone number. If you want to get rid of your home telephone bill then just do without it, although you still may need a line for faxes. In more rural areas you might not have a local area code. Specifically ask for one. You'll still have to pay when you receive or send a call but people calling from their home phones won't have to pay long distance prices on their end. You'll need to monitor your phone usage because you probably won't have free local calls on a cell phone. The one advantage to a home phone service plan is that you really don't have to worry about your minutes when calling locally. You may be able to replace your home phone with a cell phone if you are going with unlimited service and keep in contact with people who often use their cell phones. This gives you the advantage of text messages; you might even have free voicemail. Just alert people who may be calling from home phones that it's a cell phone so you may have to watch your minutes.

Pick up multiple cell phones. The advantage to a home phone is that the whole family can use it. If you get rid of a home phone you may have to expand your cell phone plan. Your teens will have privacy but you'll have to check to make sure it isn't too much responsibility. If you were going to get them their own cell phones anyways, then implement rule systems and do away with the home phone. Many cell phone providers allow you to add extra lines for just a few dollars each month but you'll all be sharing minutes.

Switch to the internet. You can make free calls on the internet through instant messaging services. You'll also be able to incorporate web cams so you can see who you are talking to, even your grandkids. You may still want home telephone service for emergencies but the internet can replace or be a great addition to traditional telephone service and it's easier to use than you might think.
