Free Tax Filing - This Tax Season Offers More Choices

A List of Providers for Free Federal Tax Services

You should have gotten your W-2 forms by now from your employer, and any 1099 tax forms that have not arrived yet will be on their way soon. This tax season offers more choices because there are many companies that provide free tax filing this year. To qualify for this benefit you must earn less than $58,000. There are many options for you if you fall under this category. For those that made more than $58,000, you can still go to the IRS website and use their free forms that will calculate simple math for you. For those taxpayers that are expecting to receive the usual paper tax forms in the mail think again. The IRS is not sending these paper forms out this year. They are encouraging taxpayers to e-file their returns online this year. You can still stop by an IRS office and pick up the paper return, or you can download it from their website.

Where can I find Free Tax Filing?

1040Now.Net - Free Federal filing if your AGI is $58,000 or less and you are 66 years old or younger. Certain states are eligible. The price is $14.95 if you do not qualify.

FreeTaxReturn.Com - Free Federal filing if your AGI is $58,000 or less with no age requirements. They also offer free federal extensions. Certain states are eligible. If you do not qualify the fee is $29.99 for federal and $19.99 for state.

EfileTaxReturn.Com - Free for AGI between $4,000 and $58,000 with no age requirement. If you do not qualify it is $29.95.

EzTaxReturn.Com - Free for AGI $58,000 or less in certain states with an option of free federal + state for $19.95.

Free1040TaxReturns.Com - Free federal tax returns and free extensions for AGI that is $58,000 or less, you are72 years old or younger, and live in a certain states. The price is $29.95 if you do not qualify.

H&R Block Free File - Free Federal filing for AGI $58,000 or less for those 51 years old and younger. This service is available in all states. Bonus: You may qualify for free state filing if you live in MI, MO, NC, NY, OK, or VA. If you do not qualify for free state filing the fee is $14.95.

ESmartTax.Com - AGI is $58,000 or less, you are 51 years old or younger, and live in a certain state.

TaxSimple.Org - Free Federal filing and extensions for $58,000 or less and 66 years old or younger. Certain states apply. The price is $24.95 if you do not qualify.

Turbo Tax Freedom Edition - Free online tax return e-file and extensions for civilians AGI $31,000 or military AGI $58,000 or less or you qualify for the Earned Income Credit. This is available in all states. You may also qualify for free state filing if you live in one of these states: AL, AR, AZ, GA, IA, ID, KY, MI, MN, MO, MS, NY, NC, ND, OK, OR, RI, SC, VA, VT, WV.

TaxSlayer.Com - Free federal filing, e-file, and extensions for $58,000 or less and if you are younger than 25, or older than 65. This is available in all states. Furthermore, filing is free if you qualify for the Earned Income Credit or your AGI is $10,000 regardless of age. Free tax filing for active military with AGI $58,000 or less.

OnlineTaxesatOLT.Com - Free federal file and extensions in all states for AGI $58,000 and 51 and younger. All state returns are $7.95.

TaxActOnline.Com - Free federal tax filing and extensions for ages 19 - 55 with an adjusted gross income of $58,000 or less in all states. State returns are $14.95.

 This list is does not cover every provider of this service, but there is plenty of options. If you do not qualify, the IRS provides many fillable forms online for you to use to do your taxes. If your adjusted gross income falls in any of these categories take advantage of this service while you can participate because there is no reason to pay if you don't have to.
