Free Wireless Phones for Low Income

By Edited Aug 17, 2015 0 0

Many people want to know how to get free wireless phones for low income and luckily there are federal government free cellphones that make having a cellphone for free a possibility. Let's face it, wireless phones can be very expensive, in fact the average cellphone bill hovers somewhere around $50 dollars a month. And if you're on a fixed income, a senior or have a low income, $50 a month can still be quite expensive. The government has a very popular Lifeline mobile phone program which makes having a free phone possible. It's actually under the Assurance Lifeline Program, whereby you can get a free cellphone with 250 minutes free talk air time on the Sprint Nationwide network.

 Best Free Cell Phones

Low income people need to still be able to make and receive phone calls and the government understands this, that is why they funded the Lifeline Program.

The Assurance Lifeline Free Cellphone program is actually ran by the Virgin Mobile company, but all you need to know is that you can qualify if you belong to ONE of the below programs administered by your local state agency. It's important to note though that some requirements do vary by state to state, but the below encompass really what MOST states are looking for, when they provide you with a free cell phone:

  • Federal Public Housing (FPHA)

  • Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)

  • Medicaid

  • Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)

  • National School Lunch Free Lunch Program

  • Food Stamps/SNAP

  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

Check out Budget Mobile and Safelink which also are regarded as some of the best free cell phones for people with little or no income.

As you can see, you can get a free mobile phone on Section 8, if you receive food stamps, if your children are in the free lunch program, if you receive Medicaid and even if you are on any temporary assistance from your state's health and human service's office.

Most low income people who want a free cell phone want to know what is all included in the government's free cellphone program. Well the list may surprise you because you get a host of features including a free cell phone.

  1. NO CREDIT CHECK with your free cell phone

  2. A Mobile Phone

  3. 250 FREE Minutes

  4. Free Calls to Customer Care

  5. Voice Mail

  6. Mobile Plan on Sprint's Nationwide Coverage Map

What you don't get on the food stamp phone service is:

  1. Text Messaging: Text messaging is not included in the free cellphone plan for low income people. You will have to pay for your text messaging and any extra minutes you use over 250. But what is good about this plan is that you can add any extra minutes and text messaging for just $20.00 with Assurance Lifeline on the Sprint Network. Just $20 adds for you an ADDITIONAL 1000 talk minutes and 1000 text messages.

  2. Directory Assistance calls are NOT free on the Lifeline program.

  3. International Calling is also NOT free on the government cell phone program.

But as you can see there are a lot of options included in the free wireless phones for low income people program.
