French Country Bathroom Designs

By Edited Feb 13, 2016 0 0

French Country bathroom design ideas can transform the look of your space without spending a lot of money. You can give your room a whole new look without breaking the bank. This style has an elegant feel but also uses rustic pieces so you get the best of both worlds. Here are a few French Country bathroom ideas.

Bring in an ornate piece. You don't want to go over the top with the elegance because then your room will seem too fussy, especially if you are dealing with a small space. So pick one or two items that you love. You can even just replace a basic medicine cabinet with an over the top gilded mirror. These were popular in the 70s so you might be able to find one that needs an update at a thrift store. If you aren't crazy about the worn metal color then paint it a bright white or even a fresh green.

Use neutral colors. French Country focuses on colors of wood and stone so it's perfect for a bathroom. You might really want to make an investment in travertine tile or at least ceramic tile that looks like travertine. Plus, using light colors will make your room feel bigger. Bring in a lot of creams, whites and taupes. You can have a natural accent color like a soft blue, pink or green.

Add a sense of history with your sink. A good way to do this is by finding a vanity that looks like an elaborate piece of furniture. You can also just use a pedestal sink if you are short on money. Any wood tones in the room should be carved with curved lines. If it's at all possible to salvage the natural wood of your vanity then stain it dark or layer it with brown and black glazes. You could also paint a simple pattern on the doors just as long as it was muted enough that it looked like it had been there for awhile. If the wood isn't salvageable then paint it a cream, white or black.

Add in elegant decorations. Toile is a staple in French Country design. Bring it onto Roman shades or even the shower curtain. This fabric often conveys a traditional pastoral scene. If this isn't your thing then just go with a tone on tone oversized floral print that is still muted.

French country bathrooms are elegant but still have a relaxed air at the same time. Plus, you can bring in your favorite natural elements and even add in a few pieces of bling.
