Break Out the Sweets
Food is always one of the most important parts of a party, so if you're looking for baby shower food ideas, you want to make sure you have some super food. The trick is to keep things simple and not go overboard with the cooking, since that will just waste time and energy when you could be planning other fun activities.
Keep in mind that finger foods are always a good idea. While people can certainly eat with a fork or spoon, it can be tough to manage when you aren't sitting at a table and most baby showers are too crowded to make room at the table. With that in mind, let's look at some fun baby shower food ideas that you can easily implement into your next shower.
Sandwiches and Substance
Mini Sandwiches Make Great Baby Shower Food!
Keep in mind that sweets are always a big hit at any baby shower. You don't have to make anything yourself if you don't want to, but ideally, you'll have a mix of foods. For example, you might bake some cupcakes and decorate them, while offering storebought cookies. Or you might add some chocolate covered petit fours to the table, and have a bakery baby shower cake as the centerpiece. Baby themed candies are always a good choice, too.
Cupcakes can easily be decorated with gel tubes. Make little squiggles, dots, or, if you're more artistic, try your hand at creating little ducks or baby bottles. You can also buy pre-made icing shapes or even cupcake toppers that just stick to the top once the cupcakes are iced.
If you really want to get fancy, buy some fancy drink glasses and layer them with chocolate mousse, whipping cream and strawberries. Make as many layers as you can, finishing up with whipped cream and a strawberry on top, along with a sprinkle of chocolate curls or cocoa. This looks delightful, tastes yummy, and looks like you spent hours!
Sandwiches and Substance
You can't expect baby shower guests to survive on cupcakes alone, so make sure to have something more substantial. This will preferably be sandwiches, which can easily be eaten while sitting on a sofa or chair.
If you think sandwiches are boring, don't worry, there are plenty of variations! Try one of these combos, or make a mixed tray!
- Chicken salad with lettuce
- Ham and cheese with tomatoes
- Egg salad with chopped tomatoes, celery and spinach added
- Cream cheese with cucumber
- Cream cheese and alfalfa sprouts
- Sauteed Tofu in soy sauce with lettuce and tomatoes
- Devilled ham and lettuce
- Roasted asparagus and cream cheese
- Jelly and cream cheese
Another fun option is wraps. Take large flour tortillas and spread them with cream cheese. Add chicken or ham or egg salad, plus shredded lettuce and roll them up. Chill for 30 minutes and then slice into 1" rounds which can be served chilled. You can also make dessert wraps by adding fruit and Nutella to the mix instead of chicken.
Salads are another good choice, though they aren't finger foods. Keep the pieces fairly small and let women add their own dressings as they like. Fruit salad or a green salad with grilled chicken can be excellent choices, as well.
