Visit Santa and ride his sleigh. Just 15 minutes from downtown Louisville at the Summit, you and your child can ride a free horse-drawn sleigh around the shopping center parking lot. Additionally, the seasonal treat includes a complimentary photo with Santa Claus. You can purchase additional photos for $5.00, in which all profits are donated to local charities. While you are at the Summit, visit one of the 60 plus shops and restaurants. Sleigh rides run from noon to 5:00 p.m. on the weekends in December prior to Christmas.
Blow Your Own Glass Ornament
Louisville is home to Glassworks, a locally-owned glassblowing shop. During your visit, you can learn about glassblowing from an artisan and watch molten glass be blown into a unique gift for that someone special. You choose the colors and style for that truly one-of-a-kind gift. You can pick up your ornament one day later. Individuals ages 7 and up are welcome to participate with an appointment. A Christmas Carol
What conveys the Christmas spirit more than the classic play, A Christmas Carol? The Actors Theatre, located at 316 West Main Street, hosts the traditional Christmas Carol. The script is slightly more contemporary than the classic Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, and the play entertains with 16 additional Christmas songs. This performance incorporates dancing and live musicians. The play runs for approximately 3 weeks in December. Tickets start at approximately $27 per adult. Discounts for children are available.
Lake Forest Christmas Lights
Gather the family in the car and take a ride to see the spectacular Christmas lights. Lake Forest is a residential neighborhood located 25 miles east of the center of Louisville on Interstate 60. Approximately 1,200 homeowners light their lawns and houses starting the first week in December. Thousands of locals and tourists line up car to car to view the Christmas-light extravaganza and stroll at a snail pace viewing this holiday delight.
Woodford Reserve Distillery
Good food and Christmas go hand in hand. Take a short excursion 60 miles southwest of Louisville to Versailles and experience a true holiday luncheon. Kentucky’s fine bourbon distillery offers top-notch cuisine by Chef Ouita Michel. The restaurant/distillery features shrimp bisque, Julia Child’s famous Beef Bourguignon, toasted walnuts, homemade Sorghum vinaigrette, caramel-iced jam cake and local lettuces with blue cheese. Luncheons cost approximately $25 per person and start after Thanksgiving through Christmas from 11:00 a.m. to 2 p.m.
