If you find that your garage door is regularly becoming too cold then you should definitely consider getting garage door insulation. Insulating your garage door isn't difficult although many people shy away from doing it. You shouldn't expect miracles from your insulation but you should be able to make the garage more comfortable to work in with a few simple steps.

Garage doors prices are on the increase all the time and they weren't cheap to begin with so insulating your door yourself can be a great way of saving money.

Not only can insulation protect your garage from the cold but it is also a great way to stop your garage from overheating during the summer months. If you live in a hot country I'm sure you know how quickly your garage can turn into a sauna! The insulation will work both ways so not only will it keep your garage warm in the winter but also cooler in the summer. Again you shouldn't expect a huge difference but it will be noticeable.

The first step you need to take is measure the individual panels of the garage door and see how big they are. Make sure you do this as accurately as possible as if your measurements are wrong so will the insulation. Even a small gap can make a big difference so take a few different measurements to make sure you aren't getting the wrong result. There are different types of garage doors so be aware that the instructions may differ between types.

Once you have done this you should buy yourself some poly insulation. Cut it into strips that are a couple of inches wide and a bit smaller than the door panels themselves. The gap is quite important so don't forget this step.

Once you have the strips of poly insulation cut you then need to stick them to the garage door. This isn't possible with regular glue so make sure you buy some industrial adhesive to do the job properly. You don't want to insulation falling off and ruining al your hard work after all!

Finally you can now put some strips of reflective insulation on the door. Cut this into the same size strips as the poly so that they fit together well.

By following these simple steps you can quickly get a garage door that is well insulated and much more comfortable to work in. Although it does take a bit of time and money to insulate your garage door you will also be able to save money on your electricity so you will get the money back over a period of time. In general the insulation material is quite cheap too.
