Garage Floor Paint Coatings

By | Jan 2, 2011 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

If you are having serious thoughts about adding a cover on your garage floor by applying some type of coating which adds aesthetic appeal and increases safety, then you should pay extra attention to epoxy. As long as the present floor surface is unharmed, you can use this coating to any type of flooring you currently have.

For instance, if your flooring is made of asbestos floor tiles which is an old style of flooring and was very popular about thirty to forty years ago, you can just use epoxy to seal them off for good. This is quite a bit less costly and more time effective than removing the tiles. Garage floor paint coatings with epoxy will seal these off very well.

Since the tiles are made of asbestos, you would have to follow cautiously all the abatement rules of asbestos which means bagging all the waste and sending it to a hazard waste landfill. This can be expensive on your part. If your floor is already coated with paint, you should check out if there are any loosened chips. If you attempt covering loose materials then the epoxy will not completely bond and will easily peel up. As long as your surface is flawless, totally clean and properly degreased you can apply the coating in thick coats by using a roller so you can also smooth out any cracks, imperfections and low points.

Another interesting aspect about epoxy is the curing process. If the resin and the hardener are mixed, the process to cure begins after about ten minutes. You can then walk on the floor after about 18 to 24 hours and, for your car, you can park it again after about three days. A running space heater can speed up the process of curing because the temperature inside the garage is increased while the humidity is reduced. If you are in an area that has hot climate, it is recommended that you wait for a week before your drive your car on the surface since the hot tires may cause the epoxy to lift up from the floor.

Purchasing in Kit For The Epoxy Floor Coatings

One of the most practical ways to make sure that you have everything on hand is by purchasing an epoxy kit from a hardware or home improvement store. These are available in different forms based on the area size that can be covered so it is easy to estimate the number of kits you should get for the specific size of your garage. It is recommended that you buy one or two extra kits just in case you need more as you go on with the project. This is just fine since you can always return what you haven't used as long as you haven't broken the seal of the package. By reading a Sherwin Williams garage floor paint review you will find that this is a very good product for the home do it yourselfer. This provides a very good coating that will last a long time.

If you want a treatment for protection and can give you a good work surface, then it is worth your time checking out the garage epoxy floor coating. This is a very suitable project for a weekend which you can utilize for several years.
