Garage Floor Tiles

By | Feb 26, 2010 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

Now that you've decided which garage flooring you're interested in, it's time to pick a particular product. Garage floor tiles can do pretty much anything at least as well as any other garage floor protector, so you'll need to decide what qualities are most important to you before you even start to choose your garage floor tiles. Are you operating under a strict budget? Will you be doing the install yourself? Will you be dropping small anvils on your garage floor covering? Will you be making an appearance on MTV Cribs? All of these facts are important consider when choosing your garage floor tile.

Price

One of the best things about garage floor tile is that you can buy it in large or small quantities. To cover the same amount of floor, though, you'll always pay more for tile than any other covering, especially garage floor paint. If money is a big issue for you, try to pick tiles that will be easy to add on to when you can afford it. Sticking to well known names that are sold in many places, and shopping preemptively for smaller sets before you need them will ensure that you'll be able to finish out your project when money allows.

Ease Of Installation

Most garage floor tiles are pretty easy to install. It's getting to where you would have to go out of your way to find a set that didn't install by simply clicking them together or sticking them to the ground. Your biggest concern here should be the state of your concrete garage floor. Is it damaged or irreparably stained? If so, you'll probably want to stick with the snap together type that doesn't need to anchor to the floor at all. Is it in pristine condition, like new? Peel and stick tiles are a great buy, and are generally quite durable.

Durability

There are really two types of garage floor tiles: those made of rubber, and those made of something else. If you plan to do work of any kind in your garage, you can't go wrong with rubber tiles. They will be a bit more expensive to start with, but the durability is worth it. Not only will your garage floor last longer using rubber, but so will your tools, because everyone drops tools. There's a reason you often see painted garage floors with rubber garage floor mats on them. It doesn't seem so redundant when you drop a wrench and damage your garage flooring.

The Way It Looks

There are plenty of folks who, when shopping for garage floors, really couldn't care less how it will look. Most car guys really feel that, as long as they can get it clean, it looks great. Otherwise, the most popular look for garage floor coverings is the white and black checkerboard. If you look around, though, you can find some other multi-colored tiles, and solid colors as well. With enough persistence, you can generally even find garage floor tiles with as much variety as paint, but you'll definitely have to dedicate some time to the search. If you have no need for a protective layer, you should also consider garage floor stain. Not only is it cheaper, but it may last longer as well.
