Generic Heartworm Pills
It is now recommended that we treat our pets on a monthly basis to prevent them getting adult heartworms. Generic heartworm pills may be the answer for many pet owners. There are lots of brands of heartworm available, such as Heartgard or Advantage, but for some of us they can be expensive. Generic heartworm medicine is much cheaper but still performs the main function of the branded names, ensuring our pets stay heartworm free.
There are a few different generic heartworm medications to choose from but the cheapest and probably the most popular is Valuheart. It is a product made in Australia but is available worldwide. The low price means it is a very good alternative for anyone looking to treat against heartworms.
Valuheart is a monthly generic heartworm pill that is simply given once a month. It can be given all year round as recommended byt the American heartworm assocaition or at leas a month either side of the mosquito season. It is the mosquito that is the only way to pass on heartworms and this is what we need to watch for.
Active Ingredients In Generic Heartworm Medicine
Valuheart has the active ingredient Ivermectin, the same as in Heartgard. What the difference is is the price. Valuheart can be purchased for $20 for a six month supply, making it very inexpensive. It is not flavored like Heartgard but performs the same action against heartworms.
Generics are much simpler when it comes to packaging to keep the cost low but they are never inferior products. When you buy generic heartworm medicine you can rest assured that you are still completely protecting your pet from adult heartworms forming. The difference with Valuheart, the leading generic is that it does not have flavored heartworm pills. This is not of much concern though as the heartworm pills are usually given in a tasty treat anyway to encourage our pets to eat them.
If you want heartworm medicine but are a little low on funds, or simply don't like the price of the branded medications then generics are definitely the way to go. I would recommend either Valuheart or a generic form of Heartgard plus as my top choices. At about $20 for a six month supply you really can't find a cheaper generic heartworm pill.
