Gently Rock Your Babe to Sleep in a Baby Hammock
Envelope your baby in a special baby hammock and he or she will have a perfect night's sleep. Baby hammocks are made from soft fabrics that will make him or her feel snug, secure, comfortable and safe. For the baby, this is much like him or her being in mom's womb.
Baby hammocks go back a long, long way. Indian women would make hammocks by tying their saris to the beams of a roof. In China, women placed their little ones in hammocks until they were 4 years old. Babies under the age of one year can sleep safely in a hammock at night. Babies who are older may sleep during the day in a hammock but you must watch them carefully.
Putting your baby to sleep in a hammock is a snap! As long as you are near him or her, there will be a sense of security and safety. Rock or sway the hammock and your baby will soon be in slumber land. Or you can get a baby hammock motion bed that rocks itself with an electric motor. Many parents who have had problems getting their baby to sleep in a crib or bed say that a hammock is the answer.
Doctors and pediatricians frequently suggest that babies who suffer with colic should sleep in a hammock. The soothing motion as you rock the hammock will make your baby relaxed and sleepy. Once he or she is in this state, the colic should soon pass. So, if your baby is prone to colic, then a hammock is worth a try!
You can get baby hammocks in a large range of designs and colors to suit babies of all sizes and ages. Be sure to get a hammock that is exactly right for your baby - never get one that is too small. When your baby outgrows his or her hammock, get a new stronger one. Your baby's safety is of paramount importance.
When your baby is in the hammock, he or she should look as if the hammock is acting as a cocoon. The baby should be comfortable and snug. Hammocks that are designed to be attached to a ceiling must be erected by a builder. The supporting hook or beam must be strong and sturdy.
Baby hammocks can be secured by way of stands, or from a ceiling, or with springs. The standing type are considered to be safe for babies up to the age of one, while the ones that hang from a ceiling beam are suitable for babies aged 3-4. All spring hammocks should be regularly tested to ensure they remain strong.
