Yeast up Close

In every person there lives microorganisms among which are yeast, also known as candida. Most of the time there is a healthy balance between all the microorganisms in our body and intestines but sometimes for various reasons, the balance is disrupted causing an overgrowth of candida yeast commonly referred to as Candidiasis. When this happens lots of problems with our health can arise such as vaginal yeast infecitons, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Leaky Gut, Thrush etc.

If you have a healthy immune system and eat a healthy, balanced diet you shouldn't have to worry about candidiasis however if you take antibiotics, hormones or get run down and sick, your immune system will have problems. Candida is found in your intestines and oral cavities and when there is a disruption in the balance in your body, those are the first places you may notice a yeast infeciton. Too frequently we run to the store and by over the counter anti fungal medicines like Monostat or Tinactin. Yeast can become resistant to these things.

When candida yeast overgrows in your intestines you can end up with Leaky gut becuase the walls of the intestines are designed to allow nutrition to be absorbed through them. If the yeast is growing out of control, then it can take that nutrition as well as cause the intestinal walls to allow microscopic particles to seep through them. When this happens you can feel constantly tired, and crave sugar and other simple carbs. That can lead to serious binges that don't fill you up yet make you gain weight.

There are many causes for the overgrowth of candida yeast, one of which is the taking of antibiotics. Antibiotics are a blessing and a curse at the same time. We need them to kill infection but at the same time they kill ALL bacteria, which allows candida yeast to grow rampant. Kind of like when a spot of grass in your lawn dies, and weeds fill the space left behind. Grass should choke out the weeds, but if the weeds get a hold in your yard, they start to choke out your grass. The same thing for the healthy bacteria and yeast.

There are quite a few treatments for candidiasis. There are many natural treatments available as well as supplements and natural antifungals that can help restore balance to your system. Some of these supplements are known as probiotics. Probiotics can be found in yogurt and kefir. You can get probiotic suppelments from your local healthfood store or pharmacy. Besides the natural antifungals such as Pau De Arco, there are prescriptions available as well. You can ask your doctor about those. Two common ones are Nistatin and Fluconozole.

By taking these steps you can rebalance your body and get rid of candida yeast overgrowth. Your good bacteria will grow back and begin to choke out the yeast.
