If you are looking for a credit card after bankruptcy, you can get one!

Make Needed Changes:

To get credit card after bankruptcy you will need to make a few changes in your financial management, at least in most cases. This will take some time, so it won't happen immediately after you file. Be sure to make all payment on a timely basis. This means the big bills, and the "little" ones, like utilities. Plan on waiting on least six months to get an unsecured credit card after bankruptcy, assuming you keep all accounts current during that timeframe. There are lots of ways to boost your score quickly.

Secured Accounts:

You can get a secured credit card after bankruptcy fairly quickly. In fact, you may be able to get approved almost immediately after you file. The secured accounts work a little differently than the unsecured ones. Typically, you'll be required to put down a deposit. In some cases, the deposit will be equal to the total line you have available. You can get a secured credit card after bankruptcy quickly, so you can make the improvements you need in your FICO score.

High Risk Accounts:

You may be able to get a high risk credit card after bankruptcy very soon after filing. In general, you will pay high interest rates and have low limits imposed. Still, for many this is key in making improvements and reestablishing their FICO scores. You can get a credit card after bankruptcy very quickly when you use the high risk account providers. It really does work.

Local Banks:

If you have maintained a good relationship with your local bank, keeping your accounts current even during financial hardship, you may be able to get a credit card after bankruptcy through them. If you filed against them on loans, and did not reaffirm them, you may not have much luck. For those that maintained a solid history and relationship with their bank, it's a great way to get a credit card after bankruptcy.

As you can see, you have some options for getting approved for a credit card after bankruptcy. You can really help get yourself back on track, and establish a better score this way. Of course, you must use some caution as well. If you are not careful, you could actually end up doing more harm to your score than good. Be responsible with your new accounts, and you'll be on the right track.
