Skiing holidays are a popular choice for active families. Some prefer to take plenty of exercise instead of spending time by the pool. However, for couples seeking a romantic weekend, a ski chalet break can also create the right atmosphere to put the zest back into one's love life.

Breath-taking scenery
Of course, taking a weekend break to get some couple time need not mean excluding all other activity except the romantic kind! Ski resorts in the French Alps are the perfect place to combine time alone together with the skiing or walking that would normally form the basis of family activity holidays. The stunning scenery of Chamonix, for example, is a wonderful location to take a cycle ride and offers miles of cycling and walking trails. Couples can take a lift on the Chamonix Valley network which will take them high into the mountains of Mount Blanc, stopping off at various points for walking or cycling routes to be accessed. Nothing is more romantic than taking a walk, hand in hand, whilst taking in the breath-taking mountain scenery.

For a truly awe-inspiring Alpine view, the Aguille Midi Cable Car will take you to the highest vantage point in Europe, at the top of Mount Blanc. Enjoy lunch at a mountain restaurant, take in spectacular views and hold hands across the table. Alternatively, if you like the idea of an enchanting railway trip, the Mer Glace will give you a two and a half hour train ride through the mountains with a lunch stop at the glacier. Chamonix also has great nightlife for a romantic evening at a restaurant or bar, together with charming shops and fashionable stores for purchasing those tokens of your affection with which to spoil your partner.

Enjoy some pampering
The best summer skiing is available at Tignes in the northern French Alps. This resort is centred on a lake and the waterside is a thriving hub of restaurants, bars and shops. There is also a busy market which offers charming shopping for souvenirs and gifts. In addition to the great year-round skiing, the mountain and lakeside scenery are terrific for walks and cycle rides. If you have the desire to get even more active, there are water sports available on the lake itself. If this all seems a little bit too busy for you, you can choose to submerge yourself in total relaxation with spa therapy treatments. Enjoy some pampering as a couple and feel rejuvenated and refreshed in preparation for a sentimental evening out at one of the lovely lakeside restaurants.

Fairy tale romance
Tignes and other locations have some delightful chalets which resemble something from a fairy tale and that provide the perfect atmosphere for romantic time alone. After a day walking the mountain trails or enjoying the skiing, snowboarding or other activity holidays in the ski resorts would usually end with the traditional aprrs ski. However, a quiet evening in front of a roaring log fire, just appreciating each other's company, is a wonderful way to put the spark back into your relationship.
