Getting Mortgage Help
In these troubled times, there seems to be no harder hit segment of the economy than housing and home mortgages. People are facing foreclosure and the real threat of their American dream being turned upside down. However, there are steps to take when facing a foreclosure that can stop it.
Get the lines of communication open before doing anything else. Sit down with the bank and discuss what can be done to stop the process. A bank may offer something that is called loan modification. Basically this is lowering the interest rate of the mortgage, helping the owners to make the monthly payment.
If the bank is not receptive to your pleas, contact an attorney. This is a step that should be done carefully as an attorney will only escalate the situation and cost money. The benefit of an attorney is the fact he or she can speak the language of the bank, increasing the chances the bank will offer some form of aid.
Talk to a government official, normally the offices of local representative or senator. The reason being is the recent stimulus package that was just passed offers some homeowners help. There are ways of lowering the interest rate or halting any foreclosure process.
Seek out the help of non-profit organizations or mortgage counselors. They often have many different ideas and have lots of experience in helping troubled homeowners. Don't be ashamed to seek out their advice, they deal with people everyday and understand every situation.
