Getting an Article on the First Page of Google

By Edited Nov 13, 2013 0 1

There are a number of articles around the web that start with “how I got my article on Google’s front page”. After carefully reading through nearly 10 out of 10 of these a writer will discover the author is simply selling something at the end of a discussion. However, there are some articles that share wonderful advice that is useful on how to get an article on Google’s front page.

I wanted to share information with readers that have an interest in getting more focused readers and want to make more money with passive writing income. Writers that do indeed get work on the front page of any search engine after applying these techniques should share with the rest of us.

The work needed to make an article that Google will show on the front page, getting the best page rank possible, is not as difficult as most would believe. In fact, for a lot of writers the task is simple enough because the quality of work is such that these tools are only tweaks to what is already being performed.

Increase the article word count

The word count for numerous writers needs to be substantially increased. A number of various articles will outline that 400-500 words is actually sufficient enough for a good article. Remember, if the work is moving from good to great some changes will need to be made.

Increase the article work count to a minimum of 1500 words of original content. This really isn’t that tough to accomplish. If a writer is currently creating word counts of 800 on average, simply moving up to 1500 is fairly easy. For those working with word counts of 400-500 this may seem challenging. Though, if an author is linking 2 or 3 articles together on the same or similar subject matter, combine them to make an extension of words to meet 1500 or more.

A lot of writers will attempt to write in an out of the ordinary manner. Instead of focusing on keywords and phrases, simply write. Make changes, alterations or adjustments after creating the content.

Video is extremely useful in creating a terrific piece of content. Add at least 3 videos to an article. This could be a rough one for writers that don’t take advantage of what video sites like YouTube have to offer.

YouTube is growing at an exceptional rate. The number of new videos added to the site every day is astronomical and for anyone writing and not taking advantage of the fact that these videos available to use should be ashamed of themselves. Use YouTube to make certain video boosts content to the first page of Google.

Videos that instruct and inform are always useful. Other videos make a written work more appealing, attention grabbing and attractive in ways that cannot be found with still images or pictures.

Pictures are really pushed for article enhancement. Having 5 images or more can do wonders for any writer’s subject matter. Readers that are glancing through an article and notice a pic that catches their eye that the like are more likely to stop and read. This is only the beginning of gaining readers. Readers will turn into an audience which is the goal.  Make more money online as a freelance writer with each one added.

Free picture sites can be located around the web. A number of free picture or free image sites are not as free as advertised. Though, there are enough online image sites to add 5 pictures to each article a writer creates. There are more being added each day to increase the variety, quality and choice of pics to use to make content more interesting, attractive and appealing for readers.

Brand related articles should always have an eBay related link. Some brand related written work can get by without an eBay link and work better with a relevant RSS link. Ebay is a resource that can help get an article on the first page of Google.

When writing on subject matter that is highly marketable always take into account affiliate marketing which increase online income. Surprisingly, a writer that forgets to add their EBay info to a marketable written piece of work happens more often than not.

Back links

Back links are extremely important for driving readers from this piece of content to others that are relevant, helpful and related to the piece of work. For an article as large as 1500 words there should be at least 10 links to a variety of sources.

Of course a writer would love to point all of these relevant back links to their own pieces of content. However, if there are other more significant and helpful sources that tie into the article make certain readers are pointed in that direction. Readers that click a link and are taken to a great piece of content that provides them with what they are searching are grateful. Although, another author receives the reader, they will remember the first article that got them there.

Tags are vital for good search engine optimization. Tags should match the article contents. Generally adding 15 relevant tags for each 1500 word doc will increase search engine optimization and increase page ranking.

Writers often make the mistake of adding tags that don’t help a reader locate the contents of great quality articles. Make certain tags connect a reader to content they are searching for. Additionally, adding common misspellings for two or three is always helpful. A number of search engine users misspell a lot of words and adding misspellings to tags assures you will get focused traffic looking for a terrific article. Words like hemorrhoid are misspelled more often than they are spelled correctly.

The look of the article

How an article is visually seen by a reader makes an enormous difference in attracting readers. The article should be overall attractive and appealing to the eye. Use subheadings; make sentences short and easy to read. Paragraphs should also appeal to the reader aesthetically.

A quick glance of any content should make a reader feel it will be easy to read, paragraphs and sentences are the right size as well as subtopics and headings hold an interest. Underlining and italicizing should be used when valid to make content flow naturally. Use colons and semicolons correctly and bold words and phrases that deserve the attention.

Most people will make a decision as to whether or not a written work is worth the effort of investing reading time in as little as six or seven seconds. The first visual impression of online written work is extremely important.

Part of an articles look is how attractive a title is for any article. Titles that have reader appeal will contribute to the graphic aesthetics of an author’s masterpiece.

Description or introduction of an article

A number of writing sites will require an introduction to the content. This provides an opportunity for a writer to catch the interest of a reader. Generally these have a word limit. When writing for maximum effect take at least 150 words to summarize and reveal what the article will deliver.

Don’t consciously try and cut an intro or summation of an article of content to the 150 word cap. Construct the content in its entirety as you would like to see it delivered. If the wording exceeds the space provided or goes a ways beyond the 150 words, rewrite and revise.

After moving around an introduction or description a couple of times the 150 word limitation will become second nature. It will be easier to find the technique to stay within the word boundary the more times the task is carried out. If the description works better at 160 words versus 149, then go with the 160 words. However, get as close as possible to 150 word maximum.

Do not print duplicate content

The search engines do not like duplicate content online. Even a writer that owns the right to reproduce content should avoid doing so. There are a number of writing platforms that don’t have an issue with duplicate content being done on more than one platform. Search engines will penalize duplicate content. The search engine bots are looking for unique, relevant and informative information. Original and unique articles are rewarded with higher page ranking which leads to more focused traffic.

One of the things a lot of writers have discovered is reviewing older articles of terrific subject matter or keyword optimization and writing a new article around the same theme, topic or idea.

Subjects to avoid

There are a number of subjects to avoid. Make certain the article is “G” rated at all times. This means appropriate for all audiences. Never write for gambling topics or other ideas that could possibly fall outside of the “G” rating. A writer that asks the question of whether or not an idea or premise is suitable should avoid the idea. This means that there may be a question of appropriateness and the safe bet is finding another idea for an article.

There are millions of inspirational and innovative themes that are safe to write about and will net great works of writing. Avoid anything uncertain for a writer’s reputation and credibility to be protected. There is always the possibility that a writer’s prospective future client may Google a byline and decline to work with them because of a troublesome article topic.

Political and religious ideas and viewpoints are not off limits. Having an informative and educational or relevant article on these subjects will work for great articles.

Don’t use keyword stuffing ideas

A lot of writers mistakenly believe that stuffing a larger piece of content with a lot of keywords and phrases will definitely net the front page of search engines. This is not the case. In fact, overstuffing of any article with keywords will actually get a hand slap from a number of search engines. This means penalties and defeating the entire purpose of writing to make page one of Google.

In conclusion

Writing to make the first page of Google is the ultimate goal for an enormous amount of writers. This means the competition to achieve this writing goal is gigantic. Don’t let this deter any writer from attempting to achieve this goal. If a writer discovers second or third place a terrific achievement that a number of writers will never experience will be achieved. The first page of the acclaimed search engine will get thousands more page views than an item will ever receive on any other.  More page views will always make more money online for any freelance writer.

Miscellaneous items such as social media sharing and other related actions that get an article noticed are all secondary to making the ultimate page rank with search engines. Concentrating on better page ranks will eliminate the need for content sharing for more readers.

The knowledge of how to get on the front page of Google is priceless. Following the tools and techniques outlined in this article is a wonderful place for any writer to begin the journey.
