Give Me A Job I Will Not Hate

There are a lot of people in the country asking “give me a job that I will not hate”. Those people are looking for a career change because they are doing something they do not particularly like. Unfortunately that happened a lot in recent times especially after 2008 when many were laid off and had to find any type of work to pay the bills. If you are one of those people and you are wondering what you need to do to leave your old job and find something that you will love instead here are some tips that will help you.

Look Within

The easiest thing that you can do is to look for a different job in the company you are in if it is available. That does not mean just look for something different; you need to find something that you like doing or you will end up in the same situation that you are in now. If something is available make sure that you apply for that job and that you let the person in charge of doing the hiring of your interested in that employment opportunity. If they know who you are, then you will have a better chance of getting a new job as opposed to if they think that you are just a name on a piece of paper.

Keep Your Resume Up To Date

The first thing that you need to do is to make sure that you update your résumé. That means that your contact information is new and available, your work history is there and that you have listed all of your skills. Try to focus on the things that will help you land a job in the field that you want to go into. Keep in mind that if you do not for your field of choice you could still gain that experience with them by starting in another position. Your current experience could open the door for you, so think of all the aspects of the new company that will afford you a career change.

Take A Class

If you do not feel that you have the qualifications for something that you really want to do then it is time to invest in taking a class. You do not have to spend a lot of money to get on your way to a career change; some community colleges will offer classes which are enough to get you through the door and some will even give you a course completion diploma. Some of the choices if you decide to go that route include photography, video editing, auto repair, management etc.

You can also choose to take some online courses which are especially good if you do not have much time. Just make sure that the online program is accredited and that you will be given enough time to complete the course. The class maybe all that you need to go from “give me a job” to “you are hired”. A lot of schools give you up to a couple of years to finish the course, but if you really want to you could finish it in less time.

Social Networking

One of the best ways to start a career change is to expand your network. There are many ways in you can get to know people on a field and improve your social networking with them. One of the better ones is through social media, specifically the LinkedIn website. You can get to know people on your field that could help you in your job search. It is always better if the people you meet are in your area and if you can meet them in person then your chances will be better. The people in LinkedIn are sometimes willing to meet in person or as a group to discuss the aspects of a new career, so if you can meet them make sure that you do. Social networking through sites like LinkedIn is easy and effective.

Another great site for social networking is the MeetUp website which has groups of which get together and that have similar interests. Look for a group in your area of people looking to network and if you do not see one then start one. One person in your network is who knows somebody is all that you need to get out of the job that you hate. You may also need some people in a professional network if you need references, so really try to get to know the people in the group. Keep in mind that these are your best references when you cannot use your current boss as one.

Save Some Money

It is always a good idea to have some money saved for when an emergency takes place. Remember that when you find a new job you will not necessarily have the same job security that you had at your current place of work. A little extra money will give you that extra cushion that you need if for some reason you are let go of your new job. You may need to make a few changes in your budget to save that money so look into things like your phone and your wireless bills, cable bills and even consider public transportation. Anything that you have to do to carry out your goal is just a temporary measure.

Common Excuses To Settle for What You Hate

You may know that you want to leave the company that you work for now, but you give yourself every excuse not to do so. Here are some of the most common excuses:

  • Can’t Leave it because of my family – Your family is a reason for you to try to find something that will make you happy. When you feel stressed you can bring work problems to the house and stress them as well.
  • Don’t know where to start – Now you do
  • Don’t know if it will work out – you may not know what is to come, but you do know what is not making you happy. If you always do the same thing, then you cannot expect a different result.
  • I am making a good living – You may be making enough money, but money is not making you happy, is it?

Excuses will only hold you down, it is your responsibility to get past them to find a better life. A career change to something that you will love is worth the effort to get over those excuses. Improve your social networking and do not settle for the old so that you can make the needed change today.
