Giving a Great Back Massage

Most of us like to get a good back massage before we going to bed. It helps a great deal in relieving the stress, provide relaxation and increase the blood circulation in the body. With some simple moves we can learn the art of back massage and use it to ease others' pain and make them relax. You will need to practice to become an expert at it. You can start right-away by massaging for your partner. Here listed below are some of the procedures to be followed for an effective back massage:

1. Select a lotion or oil. There may be several oils and lotions for various purposes. Ask for the massage oils or lotions that smell good. Take a light one and not strong oil or lotion is to be used.

2. The person who will be getting the massage needs to be ready. Massages are normally given on bare skin. However, you may use your undergarments or cover using a sheet.

3. Take the lotion or oil whichever you choose on your palm and apply it on the back. It should be just enough for your hands to have a smooth motion on the skin. Do not apply a lot because it will not convenient and you can always add more whenever you want.

4. Start the massage with slow and long strokes. Start from the lower back. Have your hands like spread out and slowly move upwards in strokes. Apply only medium pressure. Keep repeating this up to the shoulders. Do this for a few minutes. This is a great form of relaxation and beginning of the back massage in a right way.

5. Massage all the tight spots and the knots. When the person feels relaxed, you may slowly move to each of the tight muscles and knots. Then massage slowly the shoulders in a circular fashion. Do not give too much pressure. Then massage down to both sides of the spine and to the lower back. You need to be very careful about the spine and the shoulder blades.

6. When you are massaging make it a point to talk to the person. Ask him about the massage and how it feels. Also what they like most and if it is hurting at any point. You need to really know what they like and what they don't. You can continue all these strokes on the back and keep adding the oil or lotion if you require. Ensure that your wrists are not hurt while in action.

When the massage is complete, the following are the benefits gained out of it:

Releasing of tight muscles: Whenever you have tight muscles due to overwork etc, massage is a great way to release the tightness and bring relief.

Relaxation: After a tiring day's work we feel like falling on our bed and rest for a while. But if it is coupled with a massage we feel a lot relaxed.

Stress management: We have too many things to take care of during the day and we might not get a few minutes to relax. A massage at the right time will relieve us from all our stress.

Emotional comfort: At times we may be disturbed a lot by too many thoughts. So when it is able to give us a good relaxation for the body, it does equally so with our emotions too.

Massage also gives us a good awareness of our body, improved blood circulation and improve release of toxins. A good massage will be able to provide with all these benefits whenever you want them.
