Did you know that full-scale bathroom renovations can cost anywhere between $10,000 and $40,000? If you just don’t have that kind of cash (who does?) but want to update your bathroom, follow these simple tips to give your outdated bathroom a modern, spa-like feel.

  • Paint! The quickest and cheapest yet one of the most effective ways to completely overhaul a bathroom (and any room for that matter) is to repaint! Breathe new life into your tired bathroom with new color. Blue and green shades are calming and refreshing while neutrals (think taupe and creams) also provide a soothing shade that matches virtually everything. Ideally you want your bathroom to be a place to relax and refresh so avoid using loud colors (e.g. bright yellow, fire truck red, etc.).
  • Switch out the hardware including door knobs, drawer handles, showerheads, and faucets. Opt for a more modern finish that matches your new color scheme, such as brushed nickel or copper.
  • If you have the budget to do so, consider installing a new vanity. Choose one that matches your current flooring and that can easily be installed. Many come with a pre-installed countertop which can help cut additional costs.
  • If you install a new vanity, you will also have to choose a new sink. Popular styles for bathrooms include vessel-type sinks, undermount sinks (check out Blanco sinks) and sinks that incorporate natural elements, such as iron, stone, and wood.
  • Once you’ve completed all the major bathroom updates, add new bath coordinates. This includes everything from the shower curtain and rug to the soap dispenser and matching trashcan.
