Go To Work Anywhere

By | Dec 14, 2009 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

Over the last several years, I've been traveling a lot for business and have had to make my life more portable so that I could work from anywhere. Due to that, I have come up with several things that have helped me get more done on the road. If you had asked me several years ago about having an entirely portable office, I would have thought it was a crazy idea. But, it is entirely possible.

The first thing I did was try and put as much as of my business information online. I did that with three tools. Online email, online calendar and an online collaboration tool to leave tasks on white board for my assistant to review and process.

Getting my email, up in the cloud so to speak, made working on the go alot easier in itself. Gone were the days of having to get my notebook computer out or get to my desktop at the home office to check and process my email. In additon, I didn't have to worry about losing all of my data if my hard drive crashed which every few years it did. Now that my email is web-based, I can access it from anywhere and have accessed it all over the world where I could find an internet connection.

The other thing that helped was putting my entire calendar online as well. The beauty of my calendar being online is that recurring events only have to be entered once and not every month. I can also have email reminders sent as well as text messages to my phone. Instead of carrying it around as paper, I can also just check my phone. Speaking of that I can just check my phone for email too, but prefer to process my email at a computer.

The final piece of the puzzle was trying to work with my assistant from anywhere at any time of day. I used to call her everytime that I needed something, but once I signed up for an online collaboration system that was web-based, not only could I keep her up to date on what I needed, she could also keep me up to date on what she had completed or what she needed 24/7. Since we all work from our homes or on the road in our company, this works great because we often are working whenever since it's always right there.

These adjustments have made it much easier for me to travel and work. Maybe they will help you too.
