Halloween is one of the times of the year when you get to become a little bit creative with your recipes. What makes these recipes even more fun is the fact that the grosser your food looks, the more appetizing they become. Some Halloween favourites around here are Witch Fingers and these Goblin Balls.
Goblin balls are essentially candy coated popcorn. To create this delicious pop corn that your kids will go wild for, you will need the following ingredients:
8 cups (2 L) popped corn
1 cup (250 mL) granulated sugar
1/2 cup (125 mL) corn syrup
1/3 cup (75 mL) water
1 tbsp (15 mL) butter
1/2 tsp (2 mL) salt
1 tsp (5 mL) vanilla
1 cup (250 mL) orange and black gumdrops or jujubes, chopped
Pop your popcorn and place in a popcorn bowl.
Grab a smaller saucepan and turn the heat to medium/high.
Pour the sugar, water, corn syrup and salt heat it until it is boiling. Stir the mixture until the sugar has completely dissolved.
Continue to cook for an additional ten minutes without stirring. After ten minutes, try dropping a 1/2 tsp of syrup into cold water. If the material forms into a hard but pliable ball of goo, it is ready to go. Remove the sauce pan from the heat.
Slowly stir in the vanilla to avoid any splattering.
Once the vanilla is mixed in, using a greased spoon pour the mixture all over the popcorn until it is well coated.
Stir in the jujubes then using rubber gloves form the popcorn mixture into 2 inch wide balls.
Allow Goblin balls to cool on a baking sheet then serve to your evil little minion children and there friends.
