Good Skin Care For People Over 30

By Edited Nov 13, 2013 0 0

When a person gets older, the skin needs more attention to keep it healthy and glowing. Regardless of how old you are right now, you can start an effective skincare regimen that will help your skin look good and feel good.

Know your skin

First of all, you need to determine what kind of skin you have. Different types require different types of care and maintenance. For example, dry skin requires extra moisturizing. Oily skin needs extra steps in keeping the excess oil from building up on the skin. Sensitive skin requires extra gentle care in cleansing and also products that have no harsh ingredients. Using the wrong type of products on your skin can cause irritation. Therefore, examine your skin and determine what type you have. Then, choose the right approach to take care of it.

Older skin tends to dry out more easily. A facial moisturizer helps it retain the moisture that it can lose during the day. Depending on the formulation, it can also condition and feed your skin with nutrients. The best time to apply a moisturizer is right after the cleansing and toning. The toning removes any residual dirt from your skin that your cleanser could not remove, and it prepares your skin for the moisturizer. Your moisturizer can be absorbed better when your skin is well-prepared.

Beware the sun

The sun's radiation creates damage on skin. This damage accumulates over time, and the effects often do not surface until later, when your skin is more vulnerable. The radiation breaks down the collagen and causes it to lose its suppleness, giving your skin a saggy, wrinkly appearance. The damaging UVA and UVB rays can also create sun spots resulting from the overproduction of melanin in your skin. So, the best thing to do is to avoid the sun. If you must be under the sun, you should wear a wide-brim hat to protect your face. Also, remember to apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen on your face.

Tips for avoiding wrinkles

As you get older, more wrinkles will set in. You can reduce the effects of wrinkles by doing some simple things. If you smoke, you should stop smoking. Smoking breaks down the collagen in your skin and can make it sag. You should also get enough sleep. Cells regenerate during sleep, so you should give your skin cells a chance to do that during your rest period. Make sure that you do not squint. This causes excessive wrinkling around your eyes.

You should also eat foods high in anti-oxidants. When your skin cells oxidize, they basically die. Anti-oxidants will fight against this oxidation, thus protecting your cells. Also eat foods rich in omega-3. This essential fatty acid nourishes your skin and helps it retain a supple and youthful look.

You cannot stop yourself from aging, but you can stop yourself from looking old before your time. If you follow the tips in this article and incorporate them into your skincare routine, you will have healthier, more youthful-looking skin.
