Good healthy snack recipes

By Edited Apr 16, 2014 1 1

When you are trying to lose weight, the word "snack" can seem like a bad word. Snacking is actually an important part of a healthy diet and can help you in your quest to lose weight. You need to make sure you are making smart snacking choices. It is important to have good healthy snack recipes available in your kitchen so you do not reach for empty calories when you are craving a snack.

You should not wait to get a snack until you are extremely hungry. You should reach for a snack as a way of maintaining a steady amount of energy.
If you wait until you are too hungry, you may find yourself eating too many calories or overindulging in something that is not a healthy choice. In addition, you should also make sure that you are drinking water throughout the day. You should be drinking the equivalent of eight glasses of water daily.

You should keep healthy snack recipes handy. When considering snacks, it is also important to make sure your healthy snack recipes have protein. Protein will help you to feel fuller for a longer period of time.
You should have several snacking options available so that you can have a variety and not grow tired of one particular snack. If you get tired of one snack, it is more likely that you may find yourself reaching for a less than healthy snack option.

If you like to snack on crunchy or salty snacks, you may want to choose a good healthy snack recipe such as popcorn or rice cakes. You could also include a low fat piece of cheese with this type of snack to make sure you are getting protein.
Another good option for a salty snack would be low fat pretzels and a few nuts to add protein. You may also want to prepare snack sized servings of baby carrots or snap peas before your week begins so that the healthy options are always within reach.

If you prefer healthy snack recipes that can be drunk, you may want to make yourself a small smoothie. A simple recipe for a smoothie is to put a cup of low or non-fat milk into a blender with a small banana and if you'd like, a small squirt of chocolate syrup.
If you'd like your smoothie to be a little more frozen, you can also add a few ice cubes. This makes a simple nutritious, sweet and satisfying healthy snack recipe. Another smoothie option is to combine a cup of orange juice, some nonfat yogurt and a few ice cubes in a blender. You may also want to experiment with various flavors of yogurt and fruits to make your own unique smoothie for your personality.

Other sweet options for good healthy snack recipes might be two whole wheat fig cookies or two lowfat graham crackers. You may even want to include a cup of low fat or non fat milk to enjoy with your sweet treat. Even if you are trying to diet, you can enjoy a sweet snack occasionally.
