Grilled Cheese sandwhiches are one of those comfort foods that instantly brings you back to being a little kid. Kraft Dinner and grilled cheese sandwiches were two of my favorite staple foods that I would make when I was home alone, or when I wanted a snack growing up.
As an adult, I still like grilled cheese sandwiches but my pallette has somewhat evolved. I want a litte more out of my grilled cheese, if I'm endulging in my childhood eating patters, I want to eat a gourmet grilled cheese sandwich and this is exactly how I do it.
Gourmet Grilled Cheese Ingredients
- Candian Rye Bread
- Proccessed cheddar cheese
- Shredded Mozzarella
- Garlic and Herb Cream Cheese
- Chilli Pepper Flakes
Preparing your Gourmet Grilled Cheese Sandwich
Preheat your stove to medium heat and toss a frying pan on the element.
While the stove is preheating, take a piece of processed cheese and put it on a slice of bread. Take the shredded mozzarella and make a nice layer of cheese on top of the processed cheese and sprinkle on some chilli pepper flakes. On the other slice of bread, spread on a nice layer of cream cheese and then squish the cream cheese layer on top of the mozzarella. It will act like glue holding the sandwhich together.
Once all the ingredients are inside the sandwich and the stove is preheated, butter either side of the bread with a generous helping of butter, then fan fry each side for around 5-7 minutes or until both sides are golden brown.
While this variation of the gourmet grilled cheese sandwich is extremely savoury, it is also jam packed with calories. If you are looking for something to pair with this gourmet kids food, I would suggest whipping up a batch of broccoli and cheese soup; it is absolutely delicious for dipping that gourmet grilled cheese into!

Take a piece of ham, and pan fry it until it is crispy, then toss that beautiful piece of meat inside your grilled cheese. Also, consider throwing in a bit of garlic into the pan while you fry your sandwiches for some extra zest!
