Why Drink Green Smoothies?

Even Picky Eaters Love These Green Concoctions!

Have you ever tasted a green smoothie? If not, then you are in for a treat. Green smoothies  taste so delicious it's difficult to believe they are actually good for you. After all, more often than not things that taste great are bad for your waistline, your health or both.

Not so with green smoothies. These blended drinks are simply fruit smoothies with a twist, i.e., some leafy green veggies added to the mix. This may sound like a strange and unappealing combination, but, trust me, it's delicious.

Green smoothies solve one of the most pressing issues that many people struggling to maintain good health and optimum health have: how to eat more vegetables, greens and fruits each and every day, consistently, without excuses - without spending hours in the kitchen making salads, soups and other healthy dishes.

I mean - honestly - even if you are diligent about eating your salad every day - it's easy to fall into the rut of eating the same lettuce greens, without much variety.

Plus, how often do you eat a cup of kale, dandelion greens or even spinach? Admit it. If you are like an average person, not very often.

Also, how easy it is for you to convince your child to have a portion of greens? I bet it's not easy at all!

That's why green smoothies are great. They make great nutrition simple, they are quick to prepare and taste DELICIOUS!  One sip and everyone is sold!

**As Easy As 1-2-3 Green Smoothie Recipe***

Here is a great basic green smoothie recipe for you to try.

Step 1: Pull out your blender, and dust it off, if necessary :-).

Step 2: Put the following ingredients into the blender container:

• Two bananas (make sure they are very ripe - yellow with brown spots are best; no green bananas in green smoothies!)

• 4 cups of spinach leaves (or other leafy greens, such as kale, use more or less, depending on how "advanced" green smoothie drinker you are).

• 2-4 celery sticks

• 1 cup of strawberries, blueberries, or raspberries

• 1/2 avocado for creaminess and healthy fat

• 1-2 cups water (adjuist the quantity to desired consistency).

Step 3: Blend all ingredients in your blender until smooth, pour into a tall grass and enjoy!

How to Make a Green Smoothie?

You can adjust the amounts of all ingredients to fit your taste: add more different fruits (such as pineapple, etc), more greens and/or more water if the smoothie is too thick.  I recommend that you start with spinach, because it's very mild tasting and you will not taste it in the smoothie at all.

Later on I want you to be bold and experiment with various fruits and greens.  My current favorites are arugula and cilantro (not in one smoothie, of course).  There are numerous green smoothie recipes to be found on the Internet today; however, the most basic ingredients of any raw smoothie recipe are fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as organic leafy greens.

Don't put too many ingredients into one smoothie. I find that smoothies with 2-4 ingredients are the tastiest, because you can really taste the individual fruits and greens. They are also easiest to digest. However, if you feel like adding more, go for it - the smoothie will still be delicious, you will just not be able to tell what's in it.  It's best to drink smoothies on an empty stomach, and drink them slowly - mixing them with saliva for best digestion.

If you don't love your smoothie, you probably added too many greens. Start slowly, with sweeter fruits and milder greens, and let your taste buds adjust.

Make sure you blend your smoothies well. I recommend using high power blender, such as Vitamix or Blendtec.

The bottom line is that healthy nutrition is not a rocket science - just incorporate fresh, raw fruits and vegetables into your diet, and experience the incredible health benefits and energy like never before!
