Are green tea pills safe?

New weight loss products come and go every year. However, one particular product has such a history of healthy benefits beyond weight loss, that it has been studied and examined for centuries. Imagine a product that not only had documented weight loss results, but also has been shown to have the potential to fight cancer and heart disease, lower cholesterol, and prevent diabetes and stroke.

Although miracle products do not exist, Green Tea has been shown to be the closest thing we have discovered. The discovery of green tea's healing properties date back almost 4000 years to the Chinese. The Kissa Yojoki (Book of Tea), written by Zen priest Eisai in 1191, is documented proof of the history of green tea research and it benefits on the five vital organs, specifically the heart.

Green tea pills have been studied as a weight loss solution for decades with two prominent studies in the Netherlands, and in Japan showing that those who consumed more green tea lowered bad cholesterol and increased metabolism. Other studies have shown green tea not only increases metabolism, but also: increases energy, builds immune system, block fat absorption, promotes healthier skin, and reduces the effects of aging.

How can one substance have such a large impact on health?

Polyphenol: Green tea contains large amounts of polyphenol which helps activate the enzyme that breaks down fat.

Epigallocatechin gallate: EGCG as it's called is a powerful antioxidant that causes the the central nervous system to release fats to be burned as fuel. The result is increased energy and fat burning.

Caffeine: Caffeine has been shown to increase metabolism and energy by itself, but it has been proven to be significantly less effective alone than when consumed in green tea.

Catechin polyphenols: The effects of the catechin polyphenols described above are compounded when combined with proper diet and exercise. Green tea pills are especially effective at increasing the amount of time you are able to exercise (endurance) because you are burning fat for energy rather than carbohydrates. The result is more calories burned. A study of lab rats showed consuming green tea increased exercise endurance up to 24%.

If the weight loss benefits are not convincing enough, then consider the Japanese study that began in 1994 following 40,530 adults for 11 years that found that women who drank more that 5 cups of green tea per day had a 23% lower risk of dying from any cause at all- weight related or otherwise.

Green tea pills are not a loose-weight-quick trend, nor are they a miracle healing product. But research has shown, that if consumed regularly, green tea in any form has an outstanding chance of making you healthier and more energetic. So why not start today!
