Groundcovers That Tolerate Light Foot Traffic

By Edited Apr 13, 2016 1 3

Patios made out of paving stones add charm to any yard. The problem is, grass and weeds often grow in between the stones. You might not want to use gravel or sand to fill in the open areas. So, make your patio even more charming by using plants to fill in the empty spaces. Use shallow rooting groundcover plants in between patio paver stones to prevent weeds from growing in between the pavers. Shallow rooting groundcover plants will not push the paving stones out of position. Choose plants that are appropriate for the lighting conditions and expected foot traffic where your patio is located. Master gardeners at Washington State University define light foot traffic as foot traffic that occurs once or twice a week.

Very informative. I suffer myself from the fact that flowers do not want to grow between paving stones in my yard. Tend to dry up every season.
