Guide to Fairy Wall Murals

By Edited Aug 8, 2016 0 0

Fairy wall murals can really add a whimsical element to a room. They can turn a basic nursery or kids' room into a space fit for your little princess. Whether you are buying or painting your own fairy wall murals here are a few tips to make sure you get the effect you are going for.

Surround your creature with nature. It's generally thought that these creatures live in the woodlands. This gives you the opportunity to bring in a lot of different flowers and butterflies. You might be tempted to think that you can use a stencil to save time. However, you'll need a lot of animals and stencils can seem so repetitive. You might be able to get away with it if the stencil is very high end. Otherwise, it will end up looking country or sloppy.

Know when to make a big statement. You can save a lot of time just by going with one big statement piece instead of an entire mural filled with fairies. This also won't overwhelm a small space. You could just paint one fairy flying near the ceiling. Of course, this is the most important part of the mural so you want to make sure that you get it right. Use wall stickers or a wallpaper cutout for a really detailed creature. Try different flying positions; the arms could block the face or you could focus on the wings so that you don't have to paint an entire face which can be difficult for a beginner.

You can make a fairy wall mural work with a lot of different colors and styles. You could even try a modern one just by painting a dark chocolate brown silhouette. Make sure that there is plenty of scrollwork in the piece. You might be tempted to do an entire border of fairies but this takes a lot of time and the overall impact will be lost in the general busy-ness. Sometimes less is more.

Make it the focal point of your room. You've put a lot of work into the piece so now you can totally design the rest of the room around it. Bring in a princess canopy and opulent pink bedding to compliment your decor. If you work a castle into your design you can have a few different theme options to go with in the future. Fairy bedroom decor should be light and airy with just a hint of magic. However, you don't want the rest of your decor to be so over the top that your mural just seems like more clutter or gets lost. You can also mix up the colors; a fairy wall mural doesn't have to be pink. This allows you to have a feminine look that still shows off your daughter's personality. You could make a true woodland creature wearing buttercup petals or dressed in green ferns.

Fairy wall murals can create the perfect kids room. They are soft and feminine but also have an air of strength at the same time.
