Guide to Fashion or Apparel Design Schools in Indiana

By | 0 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

Your goal is to be the next Donna Karan or Micheal Kors, but your budget means you'll be staying in the Midwest for college, and won't be able to attend a pricey New York City fashion school. Indiana has several fashion or apparel design programs to chose from.

The fashion world is a growing industry, both competitive and sometimes cutthroat. The fashion design schools in Indiana are also competitive and sometimes cutthroat. Most fashion designers these days have gone to some type of fashion design higher education program. Just a few years ago, the pickings in Indiana were slim when it came to fashion design, but now almost all the large schools have these types of programs.

Indiana University offers a competitive certificate in fashion design at the school's Bloomington, Indiana campus. The certificate is under the Apparel Merchandising and Interior Design program. Less than 50 students are admitted each year and a student must begin the program in the fall semester. The certificate is combined with a major in another related industry.

The Art Institute of Indianapolis offers a bachelor's degree in fashion design. The program is part of a nationwide network of Art Institutes. The degree is expensive, costing over $80,000 in tuition and fees, but financial aid is available to students who qualify.

Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana offers a bachelor's degree in Apparel Design & Technology. The program is highly competitive with applicants often put on a wait list of several years to attend the program.

Ball State University has both a bachelor's and master's degree in apparel design at its Muncie, Indiana campus. The programs teach students how to both use sewing techniques to create clothing and to use computer software to create designs.
