Guide to San Diegos Best Beaches
There are so many great places to lay your towel along San Diego's coast; here is a compilation of some of the best beaches. Based on location, demographic, and style of shore, you can take your pick.
Best Family Beach: Located in the northern part of San Diego County, Del Mar is a clean, safe, kid-friendly beach. With decent surfing, volleyball courts and parking, this is definitely the best beach to go with your kids. You don't have to worry about wanderers since it is a little off the beaten path, and it is too far from colleges to attract much of a college scene.
Best Surfing Beach: For visitors staying at a rental in San Diego and even locals who like a bit of a challenge, Black's Beach is the best surfing area around. Long boards, short boards, and body boards are welcome at this location, and there are no separate areas for swimming and surfing since the beach is simply not popular enough for it. Watch out for the falling rocks! And, if you head down too far, you will encounter the area of nude beachgoers.
Most Famous Beach: Coronado Island's Municipal Beach is the most famous beach in San Diego. This is mostly because of the renowned Hotel del Coronado, a luxurious resort that extends out to the sand. This beach is great for people watching, as it is a huge tourist destination, but it is large enough that it never really gets too crowded. It is relatively flat, and has a large expanse of sand before reaching the shore.
Youngest Beach: If you are looking for that college scene feel, your best bet is Mission Beach. This beach is really flat, which is great for sunbathing, volleyball and beach football. There is a boardwalk-like strip along the sand, lined with bars, restaurants, and shops. You can even hear the music from the outside bars while you're sitting on the beach.
There are many other beach areas to explore, but these are the best options for the greater San Diego area. Explore them yourself and make your own decision! Don't forget the sun block.
