HTC 8X will support quad-band GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 2G networks and HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100 3G networks. It supports global roaming and has a microSIM slot.
Design and Looks:
HTC Windows Phone 8X is available in 4 colors - California Blue, Graphite Black, Flame Red and Limelight Yellow which gives users plenty of options to choose from. The colors combine well with the matte finish of the polycarbonate unibody to give the phone a stylish and attractive look. The phone measures 132.4 x 66.2 x 10.1 mm and weighs 130 grams. The rounded edges and the curved back give it a slimmer feel than it actually is. Overall, the design is beautiful and compact and it is definitely worthy of a premium range smartphone design.
HTC Windows Phone 8X comes with a 4.3 inches S-LCD2 capacitive touchscreen display with a HD resolution of 1280 X 720 pixels. The display appears as if it has been placed on top of the phone rather than being a part of it, something which we have seen already with the Nokia Lumia 800 and HTC One X. There is a coating of Corning Gorilla Glass 2 to prevent damage and scratches to the screen and lamination to reduce glare. The quality of the display is up with the best in the market; it is sharp and crisp.
Operating System and User interface:
HTC 8X runs on Microsoft's latest Windows Phone 8 operating system. The earlier versions of WP couldn't really compete with the likes Android and IOS. Microsoft will be hoping the new version can attract buyers. The user interface is gorgeous and is a pleasure to use. There is a single homescreen with Live Tiles which are highly customizable. Each tile not only acts as a shortcut to apps but also provides live information. You get all notifications in these live tiles instead of the notification menu in Android phones. Another innovative feature is the use of social media updates on the lock screen and options to display Facebook albums as your screen saver. Microsoft have done a great job at bringing together an operating system that easy to use, feature rich and beautiful. However, one thing thing that works against it is the Windows Phone Store which is nowhere close in terms of number of apps to Google Play or Apple App store.
HTC Windows Phone 8X is powered by a Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon chipset and 1.5 GHz dual-core Krait processor. Though, you don't get a quad-core processor like the one on the flagship phones of other companies, the performance of the phone is not affected. The handset performs all tasks effortlessly without any lag. There is also a Adreno 225 graphics processor and 1 GB RAM. The phone has an internal memory of 16 GB which can't be expanded as there is no external memory card slot.
The phone comes with a rear camera of 8 megapixel which can shoot images of up to a maximum resolution of 3264 X 2448 pixels. The front facing camera is 2.1 megapixel. Both cameras can shoot HD videos of 1080 pixels at 30 frames per second. Some features of the camera include continuous autofocus, touch focus, geo-tagging, video light, LED flash, landscape mode, touch focus and much more. The camera's performance is good but definitely not the best.
HTC Windows Phone 8X is a decent alternative to Android smartphones and iPhone. If you want to experience something different from the usual Android smartphones and iPhone, go for the HTC Windows Phone 8X. It has a good package of attractive looks, powerful hardware and an improved and revamped Windows Phone operating system.
