By Edited May 9, 2016 0 0

Should I Buy a HX6972 or HX9332?

Are you unsure on the differences between the Philips sonicare HX6972 and HX9332 electric toothbrush and as result don't quite know which one to buy? Then don't featr as you are in the right place -- this brief & objective comparison guide will compare the two models, through highlighting both their similar & different specifications and features which in turn gives you a clear idea as to what each model (and package) can offer as a whole. From which you will then be able to easily decide which electric toothbrush is right for you (or at least have a better understanding now as to what you are after e.g. a specific feature).

Fitted Technology

HX6972/10 (aka. FlexCare Plus): Sonicare Technology

HX9332/05 (aka. Diamond-Clean): Sonicare Technology

Both models are installed with the unique and highly rated ( No. 1 recommended by Dentists) Philips sonic technology that allows 31,000 movements every minute -- which in turn allows a complete and thorough oral clean, that works right up to your gum line (removing coffee/wine/tea stains, disease causing plaque, stimulating your gums and forcing fluid deep in between gaps between your teeth). Where they have been proven with clinical testing in just two weeks of regular usage to dramatically improve your gum health (more on this later) as well as helping you to get up two (or more) shades 'whiter' (lighter).

Cleaning & Bushing Modes

HX6972: Clean | Massage | Sensitive | Gum Care | Refresh |

HX9332: Clean | White | Sensitive | Polish | Gum Care |

With each toothbrush you are able to operate 5 modes to allow for a more customizable clean - to address specific oral needs. Both models offer the 'standard' clean mode (which is a basic complete oral overhaul), 'sensitive' (for those with particularly sensitive gums and/or teeth) as well as the 'gum care' mode (which basically acts for a minute after your standard clean mode, to provide 'extra care' cleaning for problem areas) -- being proven to help sooth and calm gum inflammation and also being clinically proven to help prevent your gums from bleeding and/or receeding.

The other two modes is where they differ from one another -- the HX6972 offers a 'massage' mode - which is similar to the gum care mode in that acts to improve gum care by directly stimulating them as well as effectively removing plaque - and a refresh mode - that can be used as a 'touch up' (after lunch or coffee for instance) that lasts around just a minute. The HX9332 offers a white mode - that causes the brush to alternate speeds to help remove stains and 'build up'; basically 'whitening your teeth' along with a polish mode - that "brightens" teeth for a more glowing, "luminous" (and even whiter) smile.

Practical Features

HX6972: 3 weeks run time | Easy Start, SmarTimer & Quadpacer | UV Sanitizer | Illuminated Display

HX9332: 3 weeks run time | Easy Start, SmarTimer & Quadpacer | Glass Charger | Illuminated Display

Rather impressively, from one 24 hour charge they can last up to around 42 uses (which is around 21 days and hence three weeks) so obviously are great for taking with you when travelling. They also promote healthy dental cleaning habits through the SmarTimer feature - making sure you clean for the full recommended 2 minutes as well as a quadpacer letting you know every 30 seconds to change quadrant  -- pretty cool (as well as slowly introducing you to the Philips sonic technology through gradual building in power over the first 12 to 14 uses for an 'Easy start' . Both models are also installed with an lit display (detailing what brush mode you are on and the battery life condition) system that appears - when you turn the brush on - but then disappears - when you turn it off.

The HX6972 comes with a UV sanitizer station that you can place your brush head - after use -  into in order to kill off 99% of viruses and bacteria that reside on it (as well as to charge up  and store your brush). Whereas the HX9332 offers a 'conducing' chargeable glass, which you can also use for mouth rinsing etc. as well as a USB travel case - so you can essentially charge your toothbrush from your laptop.

Brush Heads

HX6972: Compact & Standard ProResults Brush Head

HX9332: 2 x Diamond Brush Head

The HX9332 come with what Philips claim to be "Sonicare's best brush head" but both are professionally designed and contoured (to match your teeth shape) in order to be effective in removing plaque -- reaching towards your gum line and getting rid of stains. The HX6972 you will notice comes with a standard and compact version of a  ProResults brush head -- the latter is basically just a mini version that is ideal for precision (individual tooth) cleaning and is particularly useful for those with oral cleaning restraints/problems (e.g. gum disease, braces etc.)

Average Review Rating (sourced Amazon.com)

HX6972: 4.3 out of 5 stars (86%) from 1,000 + reviews.

HX9332: 4.4 out of 5 stars (88%) from 450 + reviews.

Conclusion: Should You Buy a HX6972 or HX9332 ?

As made clear both models are obviously superb electric toothbrushes -- but I believe them to have slightly different purposes as made clear with their designated cleaning modes. The HX9332 'diamond-clean' is for those who are after a 'better', 'whiter' appearance with their teeth whereas the HX6972 caters particularly towards gum health and care (treating those with oral problems already at hand & hence the UV sanitizer as well).
