Hair Care Treatment - The 3 Main Causes Of Dry Hair
Dry and damaged hair is a common problem experienced by many people in all walks of life these days. Regardless of what field you work in, chances are your hair takes a beating. If you work outside, in construction for example, your hair is probably fairly prone to dryness and split ends. Even office employees, though, could probably use some of the information outlined in this article. So I've basically broken down the causes of dry hair into 3 main categories. They are: Environmental, Chemical, and Self-Inflicted.
So what the heck do I mean by environmental hair damage? This basically refers to any type of damage sustained as a result of the environment you exist in. The biggest one that almost everyone has a bit experience with is sunlight. The sun's UV rays are very damaging to hair. They rip through the protein that is supposed to keep the hairs strong and beautiful. Treat your hair like you treat your skin people. In today's world, with today's climate issues, would you consider going into the sun without proper protection for your skin? Heck no! Everyone should be treating their heads with the same care. Get yourself a shampoo or conditioner with UV protection. Other environmental factors that affect the way your hair looks and performs are wind and water from the ocean. Wind isn't that big an issue unless you're experiencing hurricane force gusts. Salt water from the ocean, however, can have some pretty damaging effects on the protein in your hairs. It's also been know to cause dryness and split ends. Make sure you wash that stuff out of your hair after that little dip in the big blue sea!
Chemicals also play a pretty huge role in ruining hair and causing split end damage. The biggest culprit here is definitely hair color. If you dye your hair once in a while, chances are you're alright. For those of you out there(you know who you are!) that insist on changing the color or shade of your hair every weekend, this if for you! The ingredients in most hair dyes are bad news. Check out the label next time you're making a purchase. Look for anything suspicious... Looking at the label is actually pretty good practice regardless of what kind of hair care products you're buying. Look for good things as well as bad. Ingredients like rice flower, shea and vanilla are know for their silky, smooth strength creating qualities. Also look for green tea shampoos! I love terax hair care products for this kind of stuff!
The last category of factors that lead to dry, damaged hair are the self-inflicted type. This is pretty self explanatory but we'll talk about for the sake of being complete. The one that seems to get most people in trouble is over-washing of hair. Yes it's important to keep your hair clean and non-greasy but don't over-do it! When you're shampooing, rub lightly. Don't get too rough or you'll do some serious damage and create split ends. If, after one wash, your hair still doesn't feel clean, shampoo it again. It's much better practice to shampoo lightly twice, as opposed to roughly once.
There you have it! 3 reasons why you need hair care treatment for your dry, damaged locks...
