Hair Implants For Women Offer Special Challenge

Hair implants have been around for over 50 years but the majority of the procedures have been performed on men not women. In fact, most doctors until recently thought that hair implants would not work for women because of the nature of their hair loss. When men lose hair it is almost always because of androgenic alopecia. In fact, 95% of cases can be tied directly to this medical condition.

When men suffer this hair loss they will have balding and thinning issues on the top of the head but not the sides or back. This is an interesting phenomenon but it is true. Think about all the bald guys you have seen in your life, don't they still have hair around their ears and on the back of their head? For some genetic reason, the hair loss is localized on the top of the head. This actually works out very well for hair implants because there is a great donation area located at the back of the head from which the hair implantation surgeon can remove growing hair follicles to insert into the bald spot. Thousands of hair transplantation procedures for men have been done in this manner over the years but for women the situation is a little different.

Women tend to have hair thinning over their entire scalp which does not leave a very good donation area for a hair implant for women. This has been the problem for years but it is now changing. A new direct hair implantation method will now allow for the removal and implanting of body hairs in the scalp. This works wonders for women as the body hairs act as very good fillers within the natural hair. They tend to be coarser than scalp hair but as long as they are not used at the hair line they seem to work well enough. This has opened the door to hair implants women as a way for females to deal with their hair loss and thinning.

It is high time that someone did something to help with female pattern baldness. Up until this direct hair implantation method of hair restoration, the only option for women was to where a hat or buy a wig. Wigs looked OK but there was always the concern that it would fall off and today women are not satisfied sitting around so their wig stays on. They want to be out doing everything men have been able to do, and more.
