Hair Removal Lotion - What they don't tell you !
Surveys show that we don't read instructions. Well maybe we should when it comes to hair removal lotion. So don't dispose of the razors just yet - read on, and when you have read this article read the instructions on your hair removal lotion bottle.
Three of the popular hair removal lotions are Nair, Veet and Sally Hansen. All three offer cautionary advice including a note that the hair removal lotion can cause skin irritations and an allergic reaction and even burning. Specifically they warn against using their products if you have sensitive skin as decolourisation may occur.
Chemical burning of the skin can be caused by the corrosive ingredients, including Calcium Hydroxide. All products suggest you test a small section of skin and leave it for 24 hours after rinsing. In theory you should do this every time you use the product not just the first time.
Its also important when using hair removal lotions that the hair removal lotion is totally rinsed off of the skin within the time stated in the instructions in some cases this is less than 10 minutes. In addition check if this rinsing must be done without the application of soap.
Veet recommends not using perfume, deodorants or other similar products for a whole day after application of the hair removal lotion. Other products suggest that you should also avoid both swimming and sunbathing for 24 hours.
Allergic reactions can included minor skin irritations with small red bumps or slight rashes that usually dissipate in 2 to 3 days. Occasionally however the reaction can be more serious requiring a trip to the the doctors or even hospital.
In general hair removal lotions remove hair by dissolving the hair with the lotion. Veet includes a special tool shaped like a razor but without a blade. You use the tool to scrape and shovel away the hair removal lotion once the application time has been reached. Again rinsing with only clear water no soap.
One aspect of the Sally Hansen hair removal lotion that was reported as being negative by reviewers was the strong smell of the hair removal lotion. The bottle is clearly marked for external use only and to avoid the odour a well ventilated room is also recommended.
One other thing to bear in mind, the hair removal lotions can have the ability to damage and stain bathroom fixtures and fittings, just use common sense and read the instructions or you could be throwing away more than just your unwanted hair !
