Hair Restoration Costs

By | Aug 27, 2009 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

Determining your hair restoration cost will depend on exactly how you intend to restore and stimulate new hair growth. There are a lot of different ways you can do this including hair grafts, topical applications and shampoos, or by utilizing certain medications. Another variable is the actual size in square centimeters of the balding area that needs treatment. All of these will have an affect on the cost calculation.

Hair restoration procedures which involve implanting hair grafts, also called hair implants, into the scalp can be costly and require a large original outlay. The hair restoration cost for this method requires a large initial outlay. Some clinics allow a payment plans so you can pay in installments. Some clinics will also allow you to have the treatment and then make payments just like as if you were paying off a credit card. This option may be the best if you don't have a large amount of money to invest in your hair loss problem immediately or all at once.

Until the last ten years or so hair grafting or implants were not suitable for female pattern baldness. When women experience pattern baldness they also usually have a thinning hair problem. Traditional hair implants require a thick growth of hair on a part of the scalp to use as a donor area. With new techniques that have been developed this is no longer the case. Now a donor area with thick hair growth is no longer needed. Implants are now a good hair restoration for women alternative.

Other treatments may be cheaper initially but over time the total cost can be much more. If you use either topical applications that are applied directly to your thinning hair, or hair restoration shampoos, you will have to keep this up continually in order for your hair to continue re-growing. If you stop using these products at any time your hair will start to fall out again. One popular shampoo costs over $25 for a six ounce bottle and the directions state that it should be used at least five times per week. As you can imagine a bottle of this product will not last very long. Thus the total cost for the use of this product will be quit a lot over your lifespan.

Finasteride, a FDA approved drug marketed under several brand names, is taken orally by men to stop further hair loss. Typically this drug costs around $60 for 90 tablets with the normal dosage being one tablet per day. Over your life this would be an expensive hair restoration option. When calculating the cost of any hair treatment it is important to look at the lifetime cost not just the one time price or monthly price.

Hair implants or hair plugs as they are also known, are becoming the method of choice for treating baldness. The cost of hair plugs is really not that great when you consider there is very little cost other than the procedure. Also, there is no fear of the hair falling off like a toupee' and, unlike drugs, there are very few side effects. Hair plugs offer a great solution for male pattern baldness.
